The 3rd Baron Leighton of Saint Mellons 1955-2023

 The Lord Leighton of St Mellons, 3rd Baron, died 28 May, 2023. He was 67.

The peerage was created in 1962 for his grandfather, George Leighton Seager (1896-1963),  High Sheriff of Monmouthshire 1938; knighted 1938; Vice-Lieutenant of Monmouthshire 1957-63; underwriting member of Lloyds; Chairman and Treasurer of the National Liberal Party; President of the UK Chamber of Shipping; Governor, University College of Cardiff; Freeman of the City of London;  Warden of the Shipwrights' Company; director and/or chairman of numerous commercial companies connected with shipping in general and the Port of Cardiff in particular, &c.

Robert William Henry Leighton Seager was born 28 September, 1955, son and heir of the 2nd Baron Leighton of St Mellons (1922-1998), and his 1st wife the former Elizabeth Rosita Hopgood (who died in 1979); and succeeded as 3rd Baron upon the death of his father, 28 April, 1998.

He married in 1978, Wendy E. Hopwood (born Cardiff, 1956), by whom he had issue, a son, Richard (born 1981), and a daughter, the Hon Emma Elizabeth Leighton Seager (born 1980). The son, the Hon Richard Leighton Seager (born 1 December, 1981), now succeeds as 4th Baron.
