Tessa, Marchioness of Downshire, widow of the 8th Marquess of Downshire, has died aged 83.
She was born Tessa Murray Helen Prain, 28 January, 1940, scion of that landed gentry family, daughter of John Murray Prain, DSO, OBE, TD (1902-1985), and his wife the former Lorina Helen Elspeth Skene (1909-1985); and she married firstly, 30 May, 1964, Vere John Alexander Fane (1935-1997), scion of the Earls of Westmorland, son of John Lionel Richard Fane (1884-1945), and his wife the former Barbara Kathleen Wallace (1900-1980), scion of that landed gentry family; and married 2ndly, in 2002, Arthur Robin Ian Hill, 8th Marquess of Downshire (1929-2003), of Clifton Castle, near Ripon, son of Lord Arthur Francis Henry Hill (1895-1953), and his wife the former Ishabel Wilhelmina Sheila MacDougall (died 26 Mar, 1961). She was widowed 18 Dec, 2003.
The Dowager Marchioness leaves issue from her first marriage, a son, Rupert (b 27 Apr, 1967), and a daughter, Miranda (b 2 Apr, 1968).
