Baroness Campbell of Pittenweem 1940-2023

 The Baroness Campbell of Pittenweem, political hostess, who died 5 June, 2023, aged 83, was the wife of Menzies (Ming) Campbell, sometime leader of the Liberal Democrat party.

The former Elpseth Urquhart was born in New Delhi, in January, 1940, a daughter of Major-General Robert Elliot Urquhart, CB, DSO & Bar (1901-1988), and his wife the former Pamela Condon.

She married firstly, 13 October, 1962 (div 1969), Sir George Philip Grant-Suttie, 8th Baronet (1938-1997), son of Maj-Gen George Donald Grant-Suttie (1877-1940), and his wife the former Marjorie Neville Carter; and married 2ndly, 1970, (Walter) Menzies Campbell, Baron Campbell of Pittenweem, CH, CBE, PC, KC (born 22 May, 1941), son of George Alexander Campbell and his wife the former Elizabeth Jean Adam Phillips. Her husband was Lib MP for North East Fife, 1987-2015, and Leader of the Liberal Democrats, 2006-2007.

Lady Campbell leaves an only child from her first marriage, Sir James Edward Grant-Suttie, 9th Baronet (born 29 May, 1965).
