Sir David Burdett Money-Coutts, KCVO (1991), scion of the Barons Latymer, who was born in 1931, died 25 June, 2012, aged 80. He was a son of Lt-Col Hon Alexander Money-Coutts, OBE (1902-94), by his wife the former Mary Elspeth Hobhouse (d 1990), and was a paternal grandson of the 6th Baron Latymer and a maternal grandson of Sir Reginald Hobhouse, 5th Baronet. He married in 1958, Helen Penelope Utten, by whom he leaves issue.

The Marquess of Londonderry (Peerage of Ireland, cr 1816), unconventional aristocrat, died, at Ormeley Lodge, Ham, Richmond, Surrey, 20 June, 2012. He was 74. Alexander Charles Robert Vane-Tempest-Stewart, was the 9th Marquess; also Baron Londonderry, 1789; Viscount Castlereagh, 1795; Earl of Londonderry, 1796; Baron Stewart, 1814; and Earl Vane and Viscount Seaham, cr 1823; he was born 7 Sept, 1937, son of the 8th Marquess by his wife Romaine (who d 1951), dau of Maj Boyce Combe; succeeded to the peerages on the demise of his father, 17 Oct 1955; married 1stly, 1958, Nicolette (div 1971, and she married 2ndly, Georgie Fame, the singer, & d 1993), dau of Michael Harrison, by who he had 2 daughters; married 2ndly, 1972 (div 1989), Doreen Patricia Wells, the ballerina, by whom he had 2 sons. The elder son, Frederick Aubrey Vane-Tempest-Stewart, styled Viscount Castlereagh, born 6 Sept, 1972, inherits the family honours.

Lady June Wendy Lycett (1924-2012)


The Lady (June) Wendy Lycett, who died 17 May, 2012, aged 87, was the second daughter & co-heir of the 5th Earl of Yarborough (1888-1948), who also held the old English baronies of Fauconberg & Conyers.

She was born Lady June Wendy Pelham, 6 June, 1924, a daughter of the 5th Earl by his wife the former Nancye Brocklehurst (d 1977), and married in 1959, Maj Michael Lycett, CBE. With the death of her father the baronies of Fauconberg & Conyers fell into abeyance between her and and her elder sister, Lady Diana Pelham. Lady Wendy leaves no issue (but she adopted her sister's elder daughter), and with her demise the baronies of Fauconberg & Conyers, both in the Peerage of England, devolve upon her surviving sister, Lady Diana Miller, who was b 5 July, 1920.

Noreen Anne Browne (c1943-2012)

Noreen Anne (Nicky) Browne, who has died at Marbella, Spain, aged 69, was the widow of the Guinness heir the Hon Tara Browne (1945-66), after whose death in a car crash in 1966 the Beatles were inspired to write the song 'A Day in the Life'.

She was born circa 1943 a daughter of Sean MacSherry and married Tara Browne, scion of the Barons Oranmore & Browne, in 1963. She leaves 2 sons from the marriage, Dorian (b 1963) and Julian (b 1965).

Her husband's mother was Guinness heiress Oonagh, Lady Oranmore & Browne, scion of the Earls of Iveagh, &c.

Baroness Lyell (1916-2012)

_The Baroness Lyell, who died at Kirriemuir, 10 June, 2012, aged 96, was the widow, for almost 70 years, of (Charles) Antony Lyell, 2nd Baron Lyell, VC (1913-43), and mother of the 3rd peer.

She was born in 1916, as Sophie Mary Trafford, daughter of Maj Sigismund William Joseph Trafford (d 1953), of Wroxham Hall, Norwich, by his wife the former Lady Elizabeth Mary Constance Bertie, OBE, daughter, by his 2nd wife, of the 7th Earl of Abingdon (1836-1928).

Her husband was 29 years old, and a temporary captain in the 1st Battalion, Scots Guards, British Army during the Second World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

During the period 22–27 April 1943 near Dj Bou Arada, Tunisia, Captain Lord Lyell's outstanding leadership and gallantry enabled his company to take its objective. On 27 April accompanied by a sergeant, a lance-corporal and two guardsmen, he led an attack on an enemy post consisting of an 88mm gun and a heavy machine-gun in two separate pits. He destroyed the crew of the machine-gun with a hand grenade and then, three of the party having become casualties, and with the lance-corporal to give covering fire he leapt into the second pit, killing several of the crew before being overwhelmed and killed. Both the guns had been silenced.
Lady Lyell's son, Charles, the 3rd Baron, was born 27 Mar 1939.

Lady Lyell's funeral takes place on 19 June at Kirriemuir Old Parish Church.

The Baron Maples (1943-2012)

The Baron Maples, life peer, who died 9 June, 2012, aged 69, was, as John Maples, Economic Secretary to the Treasury 1990-92, and later joint deputy chairman of the Conservative party under John Major and deputy chairman under David Cameron.

John Maples, born 22 Apr, 1943, was Tory MP for Lewisham west, 1983-92, and then for Stratford-on-Avon, 1997-2010. On his resignation from the Commons he was awarded a life peerage in the Dissolution Honours List, 2010.

He married Jane Corbin, the Panorama journalist, in 1986, and leaves issue by her.

Simon Ludlam is a son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Ludlam, of Bickley, Kent, and Victoria, a scion of the Viscounts Charlemont (Peerage of Ireland, 1665), is the daughter of James Alexander Toby Caulfeild (b 1937), of Redford, West Sussex, by his wife Diana Penelope Pound.

Hannah R. Lort-Phillips (nee Bulmer), wife of Captain Harry P.F. Lort-Phillips, 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's), scion of the Lort-Phillips family of Lawrenny, gave birth to a son, Oliver David Patrick, 25 May, 2012, a brother for Sophie Rosanna, who was born 15 December, 2009. Harry is descended from the Barons Grenfell, & is son of Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs Patrick Lort-Phillips, of Palm House, Market Lavington, Wiltshire. Hannah is a daughter of Mr and Mrs David Bulmer, of Brilley Court, Herefordshire.

HRH The Duchess of Cornwall attended the wedding at Chadlington, Oxfordshire, 28 May, 2012, of her godson, the Hon Henry William Allsopp [b 8 Jun 1973], only son of the 6th Baron Hindlip [b 5 Aug 1940] and Baroness Hindlip [scion of the Barons McGowan], and the Hon Naomi Gummer [b 10 Jan 1984] eldest daughter of Peter Selwyn Gummer, Baron Chadlington [Life Peer] b 24 Aug 1942, and Baroness Chadlington.
