The 18th Baron Inchiquin 1943-2023

 Lord Inchiquin, the 18th Baron in the Peerage of Ireland, died 3 June, 2023, aged 79.

He was The O'Brien, Chief of the Name, and titular Prince of Thomond. Lord Inchiquin's peerage was created by King Henry VIII in 1543. He was also the 10th Baronet (created 1686). His home was Thomond House, Dromoland, Co. Clare, Ireland.

Lord Inchiquin was commissioned into the 14th/20th Kings Hussars in 1963. He served as a troop commander in Benghazi, Tripoli, Cyprus on Operation Tosca, Tidworth, Paderborn (as assistant adjutant), Singapore, and Tidworth as adjutant of the regiment. He became Aide-de-Camp to Commander British Forces Gulf in Bahrain and left the army in 1975, retiring with the rank of Captain.

Conor Myles John O'Brien, was born 17 July, 1943, son of Flight-Lieutenant the Hon Fionn Myles Maryons O'Brien (1903-1977), and his wife the former Josephine Reine Bembaron (who d 27 Oct, 2011); and succeeded to the family honours, 20 May, 1982, on the death of his uncle, the 17th Baron (1900-82).

He married in 1988, Helen O'Farrell, daughter of Gerald Fitzgerald O'Farrell, of Curry Lodge, Newtownforbes, co. Longford, by whom he had issue, two daughters, the Hon Slaney Alexandra Anne (born 7 Jul 1989), and the Hon Lucia Josephine Mary (born 27 May 1991).

The heir to the peerage is Lord Inchiquin's kinsman, Conor John Anthony O'Brien (born 24 September, 1952).
