The engagement was announced 26 January, 2025, between Thomas Arthur MacDermot (born 1998), son of Dominic Charles MacDermot (born 27 September, 1955), of São Paulo, Brazil, scion of that landed gentry family, and his wife the former Renata Rehder, daughter of Reuben A. Rehder, of São Paulo, Brazil, and Clementine Agar Begg (born 1 February, 1998), second daughter of Robin Mark Begg (born October, 1959), of Charlton Musgrove, Somerset and his wife the former Teleri Jane Bligh (born Dec 1962).
The head of the MacDermot family is known as the _Prince of Coolavin_ and was a title first applied by popular usage to Charles MacDermot (1707–1758), then head of the MacDermot family of Moylurg. Coolavin is a barony in south County Sligo in Ireland. Up to the late 16th century the head of the family were still Kings of Moylurg, but had lost their lands due to confiscation. The adoption of the term indicated that the family considered themselves "princes", and also considered as such by their neighbours. The title continued to be used by the head of the family into the 21st century.
