Lady Tennant died 9 December 2025, aged 91. She was the widow of Sir Anthony Tennant (1930-2011), a grandee of the corporate world who led the revival of Guinness after it was tarnished by financial scandal and went on to become chairman of Christie's – only to find his reputation besmirched by allegations of complicity in price-fixing with its rival, Sotheby's.
She was born Rosemary Violet Stockdale, 14 Oct, 1934, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Charles Minshull Stockdale (1902-1981), and his wife the former Hon Margaret Violet Henderson (1904-1976), scion of the Barons Faringdon. She was a niece of Sir Edmund Stockdale, 1st Baronet (1903-1989), Lord Mayor of London 1959-60.
She married 12 July, 1954, Anthony John Tennant (born 5 Nov, 1930), scion of the Tennant baronets (later Barons Glenconner), son of Maj. John Tennant (1899-1967), and his wife the Hon Antonia Mary Roby Benson (1903-77), daughter of the 1st Baron Charnwood (1864-1945). Her husband was knighted in 1992, and died 4 August, 2011.
Lady Tennant leaves two sons, Christopher and Patrick Tennant.
