Andrew Michael John Wemyss, who died 30 June, 2026, aged 100, was a scion of the Wemyss landed gentry family, and a grandson maternally of the 6th Duke of Portland.
He was born 3 October, 1925, the second son of Michael John Erskine Wemyss of the that Ilk (1888-1982), of Wemyss Castle, Fife, and his wife the the Lady Alexandrina Violet Cavendish-Bentinck, CVO (1890-1994), daughter of the 6th Duke of Portland, KG, GCVO, GCStJ, TD, PC, DL (1857-1943).
He was a descendant of Augusta FitzClarence, an illegitimate daughter of King William IV.
Andrew served as a page to the Duke of Portland at the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, 12 May, 1937, and was a kinsman of Queen Elizabeth (1900-2002), whose mother was a Cavendish-Bentinck.
He married 8 February, 1967, Janet Alethea Scott (1933-2006), daughter of Maj John Swire Scott (1901-1972), and his wife the former Alethea Abel Smith (1902-1984), scion of that landed family, and also kin of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, by whom he had a son, William John (born 8 Oct, 1970), and a daughter, Isabella Alethea (born 22 Feb, 1968).
