The Lady Annabel Goldsmith 1934-2025

 Lady Annabel Goldsmith, the socialite, and society hostess, who gave her name to a famous 1960s London nightclub, has died aged 91.

She was born 13 June, 1934, as the Hon Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart, second daughter of Edward Charles Robert Vane-Tempest-Stewart, styled Viscount Castlereagh (born 18 Nov, 1902), and his wife the former Romaine Combe (who died 19 December, 1951) scion of that landed family. Her father succeeded as 8th Marquess of Londonderry (cr Peerage of Ireland, 1816) upon his father's death, 11 February, 1949, and died 17 Oct, 1955).

She married firstly, 10 March, 1954 (div. 1975), Marcus Lecky Oswald Hornby Birley (1930-2007), scion of that landed gentry family, son of Sir Oswald Birley, MC, RA (1880-1952), the portrait painter, by his wife Rhoda Vava Mary Lecky Pike (1900-1981), scion of that landed gentry family; and married 2ndly, 16 Nov, 1978, Sir James Michael Goldsmith (1933-1997), the industrialist and politician, son of Francis Goldsmith (1878-1967), by his wife the former Marcelle Mouiller (1903-1985).

Lady Annabel was the mother of six children. Three children from both marriages - Rupert Birley (1955-1986), Robin Birley (born 1957), a daughter, India Jane (born 1961), Jemima Goldsmith (born 1974), Zac Goldsmith, Baron Goldsmith of Richmond Park (life peer) (born 1975), and Benjamin Goldsmith (born 1980).
