Colonel Robert Longdson, LVO, who died 23 May, 2025, aged 88, was a scion of that landed gentry family.
He was appointed LVO in 2006 for his service as Lieutenant, Her Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms.
Robert Shaun Longsdon was born in 1936, son of Robert Cyril Longsdon (1900-1989), and his wife the former Evadne Flower (1911-2003), scion of that landed gentry family, and married in 1968, Caroline Susan Watson (born 1946), daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Colvin Watson, OBE, MC, TD (1918-2004) and his wife the Hon (Joan) Sybil Berry (1919-1988), daughter of the 1st and last Baron Buckland (1877-1928), by whom he had issue, three sons, James, Rupert and Charles, and a daughter, Laura.
