_.Professor Pieter Grootenhuis, late the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Imperial College, London, died 19 December, 2020. He was 96.
The son of Johannes C Grootenhuis and his wife Anna van den Bergh, he married 1954, Sara J [Sally] Winchester [born 1933], only child of Major Charles Campbell Winchester, MC [1894-1940], of the Royal Scots, and his wife the former Margaret Isobel de Havilland [1901-1970], scion of that landed gentry family, of Havilland Hall, and a cousin of the actresses Dame Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine.
He leaves a son, Hugh, and a daughter, Felicity.
