_. Major John David Pierrepont Poyntz, scion of that landed gentry family, of Tylston Lodge, has died aged 82. He was an officer in the Royal Engineers, the last from the regiment to be an HM Inspecting Officer of Railways. He retired in 2006.
He was born 27 May, 1938, son of Capt Richard Stephen Pierrepont Poyntz, FRGS [1883-1958], and his wife the former Eileen Ann Bourke. The Poyntz family provided two Earls Spencer with brides. The first Earl married Margaret Georgiana Poyntz [1737-1814], and the fourth Earl married his cousin, Georgiana Poyntz [1799-1851].
In 1974, he married Anna Moore.
