Annette Christine Oakes, who has died aged 86, was a scion of the Swire landed gentry family; born in 1936, daughter of Colonel Cyril George William Swire [1891-1950], and his wife the former Doris Ivy Warner [1904-80]; and married 20 September, 1961, Major John Waddington Oakes [1932-2021], scion of that landed gentry family, son of Montague Waddington Oakes [1889-1944] and his wife the former Cynthia Maud Lacy [1903-71], scion of the Lacy baronets.
