Baroness Hill-Norton

The Baroness Hill-Norton, who died at Lordington Park, 28 September, 2006, aged 89, was the widow of Admiral of the Fleet Baron Hill-Norton, GCB (1915-2004).
She was the former Margaret Eileen Linstow, daughter of Carl Adolph Linstow, and married the then Peter Hill-Norton in 1936. He died 16 May, 2004. She was the mother of a daughter, Carla, and a son, Vice-Admiral the Hon. Sir Nicholas Hill-Norton, KCB
Funeral at St Mary's Church, Newton Valence, Hampshire, 9 October, 2006.

Dowager Countess of Lytton

The Dowager Countess of Lytton, who died at Wellcross Grange Nursing Home, near Horsham, 24 September, 2006, aged 90, was the widow of the 4th Earl of Lytton (1900-85).
She was the former Clarissa Mary Palmer, daughter of Brigadier-General Cyril Eustace Palmer, CB, CMG, DSO, and a descendant of the Blakiston Baronets, and married Lord Lytton in 1946. She leaves issue including the 5th Earl (b. 7 June, 1950).
Funeral Mass and interment, 13 October, 2006, at Friary Church of SS Francis and Anthony, Haslett Avenue, Crawley, West Sussex.

Christian Lady Innes, widow of 16th Baronet

Christian Lady Innes, who died at her home, 24 September, 2006, aged 82, was the 2nd wife and widow of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Berowald Innes of Balvenie, 16th Baronet, OBE.
She was the former Elizabeth Christian Watson, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Henry Watson, DSO, and married Sir Berowald in 1961. He died in 1988.

June, Lady Horlick 1926-2006

June Lady Horlick, who died 24 September, 2006, at Henley-on-Thames, was the widow of Sir John James Macdonald Horlick, 5th Baronet (1922-95).She was born in 1926 as June Cory-Wright, daughter of Douglas Cory-Wright, CBE (1901-87), a scion fo the Cory-Wright Baronets (cr. 1903), by his wife Margaret Levy, and married Sir John in 1948. She leaves a son, Sir James, 6th Baronet, and daughters, Harriet and Araminta. A Thanksgiving Service will be held at St Nicholas Church Remenham Henley-on- Thames on Friday 6 October, 2006.


Baroness Oranmore & Browne

Baroness Oranmore & Browne, who died 24 September, 2006, at the age of 87, was the 3rd wife and widow of the 4th Baron Oranmore & Browne (b. 21 Oct 1901; d. 7 Aug 2002).
She was the 1930s film actress Sally Gray, who was born Constance Vera Stevens, at Holloway, north London 14 February, 1919.
She married Dominick Geoffrey Edward Browne, 4th Baron Oranmore & Browne, in 1951, and settled at Castle Mac Garrett, Co Mayo, and afterwards in the 1960s, they settled in a flat in Eaton Place, London. When Lord Oranmore and Browne died, aged 100, in 2002, days after he and his wife had attended at a party in the Ritz, he had been the longest serving peer in the Lords (where he had never spoken) until ejected by Tony Blair's reforms.

Butter/Szeluk marriage

The marriage took place on Friday 1 September, 2006, at Dunkeld Cathedral, between Mr Charles Harold Alexander Butter (b. 10 Apr 1960), only son of Sir David Henry Butter, KCVO, MC, JP (b. 18 March, 1920), of the landed family Butter of Pitlochry, and Lady Butter, CVO (nee Myra Alice Wernher), of Pitlochry, Perthshire, and Miss Agnieszka D. Szeluk. The Marquess of Milford Haven was best man. The honeymoon was spent abroad.
Charles Butter is a brother of the Countess of Dalhousie, and a first cousin of the Duchesses of Abercorn & Westminster, and is a grandson maternally of Major-General Sir Harold Augustus Wernher, 3rd Bt, GCVO, by his wife Lady Zia Wernher, daughter of HIH Grand Duke Michael of Russia and his morganatic wife Countess de Torby, &c.

Jamie Kidd

Catherine B. Kidd (nee Kemeny), wife of Jack Edward Kidd (b. 1973), gave birth to her sixth child, a daughter, Jamie, in 2006. The baby is her fourth with husband Jack Kidd (she has two older children, Ashley, 18, and Autumn, 14, from a previous marriage).The other Kidd offspring are Jaden Rachel K Kidd, a daughter, b. 2002; John Aitken C. Kidd (known as Jack), b. 2003; & Jackson, b. Oct. 2004. Jack Kidd is brother of the super-model Jodie Kidd, and of the Countess of Mornington. Jack's grandmother, the Hon. Janet Aitken (dau of the 1st Baron Beaverbrook), was the wife, between 1927 and 1934, of Ian Douglas Campbell, later 11th Duke of Argyll. Before settling on Jack's grandfather, Maj. Thomas Kidd, Janet's second husband was the Hon. William Montagu, son of the 9th Earl of Sandwich.


Elizabeth Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes

Lady Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 2nd wife, since 2005, of Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 3rd Baronet, OBE (b. 7 March, 1944), gave birth to a daughter, Elizabeth, sometime in 2006, circa Apr 2006.
Sir Ranulph is the posthumous son of the late Lt-Col Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, DSO, 2nd Bt, (who died of wounds in 1943), and the late Lady Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes (d. 1995), and Lady Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes is the former Louise Millington.

The Lady Laura Duckworth-Chad (nee Fortescue Gore b. 1975), wife of Major James Anthony L'Etang Duckworth-Chad, Coldstream Guards, (b. 1972) former Equerry to Queen Elizabeth II, gave birth to a daughter, Molly Lettice Fortescue, 21 September, 2006. James is the elder son of Anthony Duckworth-Chad, of Pynkney Hall, Norfolk, High Sheriff of Norfolk, 1992, by his wife Elizabeth Sarah Wake-Walker (a granddaughter of the 7th Earl Spencer), & Lady Laura is the elder daughter of the 9th Earl of Arran, of Castle Hill, Devon, by his wife the Countess of Arran (the former Eleanor van Cutsem). Major James Duckworth-Chad is a second cousin of the Princes William and Harry.

10th Earl of Mayo 1929-2006

The Earl of Mayo, who died at his home in France, 22 September, 2006, aged 77, was the 10th holder of the earldom (Peerage of Ireland, 1785).
Terence Patrick Bourke was born 26 August, 1929, son of the Hon Bryan Longley Bourke (d. 1961, 3rd son of the 8th Earl) by his wife Violet, and was educated at St Aubyns, Rottingdean; Royal Naval College Dartmouth.
Career:-> Lieutenant RN 1952; Fleet Air Arm 1952; served in the Suez Campaign 1956; Solo Aerobatic Displays Farnborough 1957; invalided 1959; Member, Gosport Borough Council, 1961-64; President, Gosport Chamber of Trade, 1962; Gov. Gosport Secondary Schools, 1963-64; Managing Director, Irish Marble Ltd, Galway 1965-82; succeeded to the earldom and Barony of Naas (1766) and Viscountcy of Mayo (1781), on the death of his uncle, 1962.
Married 1stly 1952 (div 1987, & she d. 1992), Margaret Jane Robinson Harrison, by whom he had three sons, Charles, Patrick & Harry; married 2ndly, 1987, Sally Anne, daughter of F.G. Matthews, by whom he had one son, Jem.
The peerages now devolve upon his eldest son, Charles Diarmuidh John Bourke, styled Lord Naas, b. 11 June, 1953.
The funeral takes place 29 September, 2006, at Mondebat.--

3rd Lord May 1931-2006

The 3rd Baron May (Peerage of the UK, 1935), died 22 September, 2006. He was aged 74.
Michael St John May was born 26 September, 1931, son of the 2nd Baron, by his wife Roberta, daughter of George Ricardo Thoms, and was educated at Wycliffe College, Gloucestershire, & Magdalene College, Cambridge.
Career:-> 2nd Lieutenant Royal Signals 1950; succeeded to the peerage on the demise of his father, 1950.
Married firstly, 1958 (div. 1963) Dorothea Catherine Ann, daughter of Charles McCarthy, of Boston, United States; married secondly, 1963, Jillian Mary, daughter of Albert Edward Shipton, of Beggars Barn, Shutford, Oxfordshire.
He is survived by his 2nd wife, and a son and a daughter from the 2nd marriage. The peerage now devolves upon his only son, the Hon. Jasper Bertram St John May, b. 24 Oct, 1965.

Eleanor Mary Bland (b. 1971, nee Townsend), wife of Richard James Christopher Bland, b. 1972 gave birth to a son, Frederick Robin James, 15 September, 2006.
Eleanor is the beldest daughter of John Richard Townsend and his wife the Lady Juliet Margaret Townsend LVO (nee Smith, sister of the late 3rd Earl of Birkenhead), Lady in Waiting to HRH The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, 1965-71, and Extra Lady in Waiting, 1971-2002.
Richard is the elder son of Godfrey Hamilton Bland and of his wife, née Olga Mary Hohler [herself the daughter of Edward Hohler and of his wife, née Jane Lane (herself the daughter of Robert Charlton Lane and of his wife, née Olga Fitzgeorge [whose father was a morganatic son of Prince George of Great Britain, Ireland and Hannover, Duke of Cambridge &c.

Lady Mariegold Magdalene Jamieson

The Lady Mariegold Magdalene Jamieson, who died 18 September, 2006, aged 87, was a sister of the late 17th Duke of Norfolk, KG, GCVO, CB, CBE, MC.
She was born in 1919, daughter of Bernard Edward, 3rd Baron Howard of Glossop, MBE (1885-1972), by his wife, Mona (in her own right) Baroness Beaumont (who d. 1971). In 1975 her brother succeeded his cousin as Premier Duke and Earl in the Peerage of England, and hereditary Earl Marshal. He died in 2002.
She married 1957, Gerald James Auldjo Jamieson (who died in 1992), son of the late Sir Archibald Auldjo Jamieson, KBE, MC, and had issue, two sons, Simon (b. 1959), and James (b. 1963).
Funeral Mass at St. Mary's, Cadogan Street, SW3, 27 September, 2006, followed by burial at Bintree Norfolk.


Lane Fox/Carter engagement

Edward's paternal grandmother was the Hon Marcia Agnes Mary Lane Fox (b. 4 Sept, 1904-d. at Leeds, West Yorkshire, 9 January, 1980), eldest of the four daughters of the first Baron Bingley (1870-1947); she married 3 Oct, 1929, Lt-Col Francis Gordon Ward-Jackson,Vice-Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, 1968-74 (b. 14 Oct, 1899, d. 1989, aged 89) (who assumed the surname of Lane-Fox in lieu of Jackson by deed poll in 1937).

Alice Hamilton is a granddaughter paternally of the late 3rd Baron Hamilton of Dalzell, GCVO (1911-90), a Lord in Waiting to the Queen.

Valerie Middleton (nee Glassborow) 1924-2006

Prince William's girlfriend Kate Middleton is grieving following the death of her grandmother.
Valerie Middleton, who was circa 82, died suddenly at Andover, Hampshire, 13 September, 2006.
At the age of 22 the then Valerie Glassborow married pilot instructor Peter Middleton, son of a Leeds solicitor, at Adel Church, Leeds, West Yorkshire, 7 December, 1946. Their son, Michael, Kate's father, was born at Chapel Allerton, Leeds, in 1949.
It's a double blow for Kate who has lost both grandmothers in a matter of weeks. Her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Goldsmith, 71, died from lung cancer, 21 July, and Kate read a poem at the funeral.
Mrs Middleton's funeral takes place at Thatcham, Berkshire, close to the home of Kate's parents, 22 September, 2006.

Dorothy Goldsmith (1935-2006)

Dorothy Goldsmith, 71, lost her four-month battle with lung cancer. Kate, 24, who has been dating Wills for nearly five years, had visited her several times over the past few weeks.A pal last night said: “Kate and her grandmother shared many happy times, especially after Dorothy’s husband Ron died three years ago.” Dorothy died 21 July, 2006, and Kate was brave enough to read a poem at her funeral last week. The pal added: “Kate is still tearful.”

Lord Cranworth marries Mrs Cameron Noble

The marriage took place 9 September, 2006, at St Botolph's Church, Culpho, between Philip Bertram Gurdon, 3rd Baron Cranworth (b. 24 May 1940), widower, & Mrs Cameron Vail Noble, of Easton, Maryland, United States.
Lord Cranworth's late wife was the former Frances Henrietta Montagu Douglas Scott, scion of the Dukes of Buccleuch & Queensberry, and a niece of HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester.


Rufus Thompson

Sophia Judith Thompson (nee Burrell, b. 1974), wife of Peter J.A. Thopmspon, gave birth to a son, Rufus, at The Portland Hospital, London, 8 September, 2006, a brother for Kitson Mark Timothy, who was b. at The Portland Hospital, London, 24 February, 2005. Mr Peter J.A. Thompson, is the younger son of Mr Colin Thompson, of Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, and Mrs Timothy Walker, of Kellaways, Wiltshire, and Sophia Thompson is the daughter of Mr Mark William Burrell (b. 1937), scion of the Burrell Baronets, of Bakers House, Shipley, West Sussex, by his wife Margot. Peter Thompson is a brother of Lady Ivar Mountbatten, wife of Lord Ivar Mountbatten, brother of the Marquess of Milford Haven. The Lady Lloyd of Kilgerran, widow of the life peer Lord Lloyd of Kilgerran, QC, died 11 September, 2006, aged 99. She was Phyllis Mary Shepherd, daughter of Ronald Shepherd, JP, of Chilworth, Hampshire, and married the future peer in 1940. Her husband died in 1991. She leaves 2 daughters.

Julia Buxton (nee Jay), wife of Henry Gurney Buxton (b. 1966), scion of the Buxton Baronets (created in 1840), gave birth to a son, Rafe Ivo Jay, 4 September, 2006, at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. Henry is the younger son of Robert Hugh Buxton (b. 1933), of Sunningdale, Berkshire, and his first wife Mrs Helen Loveday Buxton (nee Piesse), of Holland Park, London, and Julia is the younger daughter of the late Mr Ian Jay and of Mrs Ian Jay, of Chelsea, London.

Ella Palmer

Kate Palmer (nee de Lotbinière), wife of Drew H. Palmer, gave birth to a daughter, Ella, 2 September, 2006. Drew is the elder son of Mr & Mrs Jeremy Palmer, of Axminster, Devon, and Kate is the former C.M. (Kate) Joly de Lotbinière , daughter of the late Henry de Lotbinière and of Mrs Anita de Lotbinière, of Highbury, London. Kate's father was Henry Joly de Lotbinière (1945-2002), a barrister, who was the only child of Seymour de Lotbinière, CVO, of Brandon Hall, Brandon, Suffolk, by his wife, Mona Lewis. Kate is of French-Canadian ancestry, descended from the last Marquis de Lotbinière . Her gt-grandfather was Brig-General Henri Gustave Joly de Lotbinière, DSO, [1868-1960], who married Mildred Louisa Grenfell.

7th Viscount St. Vincent (1905-2006)

The Viscount St. Vincent, who died at his home in Jersey, Channel Islands, 4 September, 2006, was aged 101.Ronald George James Jervis, 7th Viscount (Peerage of the United Kingdom, created 1801) was born 3 May, 1905, son of the 6th Viscount (1859-1940) by his wife, the former Marion Annie Brown (d. 1911), and was educated at Sherborne.Career: - - - > served in the Second World War as acting Lieutenant-Commander, RNVR; Justice of the Peace for Somerset, 1950-55, &c.He succeeded to the peerage on the demise of his father in 1940. His ancestor, Admiral Sir John Jervis, First Lord of the Admiralty 1801-04, was the celebrated naval commander who obtained a splendid victory over the Spanish Fleet at Cape St. Vincent.He married in 1945, Constance Phillida Anne, daughter of Lt-Col. Robert Hector Logan, OBE, by whom he had issue, the Hon. Edward Robert James, b. 12 May, 1951, and the Hon. (Ronald Nigel) John, b. 1954. The title devolves upon his elder son.

William Charles Heaton-Armstrong, b. 1 Sept. 1853, was nineteen generations in descent *per distaff* from King Edward I, and 14 generations in descent from James II, King of Scots; he m. at Veldes, Austria, 7 Sept. 1885, Baroness Bertha Maximiliana, only surviving daughter of the fourth Baron Zois-Edelstein, of Schloss Egg, Carnolia, Austria, and had issue [i] William Duncan Francis, b. at Veldes, 29 Sept.1886; & [ii] John Dunamace, b. in Middlesex, 21 Feb. 1888.

He was aged 82. David William Anthony Blyth Macpherson was born 23 January, 1924, son of the 1st Baron by his wife Jill (died 1956), daughter of Sir George Rhodes, 1st Baronet, and was educated at Eton and Jesus College, Cambridge. Career: -> served in the RAFVR during WW2; Motoring Correspondent of The Field, 1954-2002; Member of the British Parliamentary Delegation to Austria, 1964; President, Institute of Freight Forwarders, 1974-75; President, Guild of Motoring Writers from 1971; President, Guild of Experienced Motorists, 1980-86; President, National Breakdown Recovery Club, 1982-96; Pres, Driving Instructors' Association, 1982-2002; President, Vehicle Builders' and Repairers' Association from 1983: &c. He published "Motoring for Pleasure" (1963). He succeeded to the peerage (created in 1936) onthe death of his father, 1937. Belinda (Bindy) Roscoe (nee Nutting, b. 1975), wife of William J.F. Roscoe, and scion of the Nutting Baronets, gave birth to a daughter, Amelie Flora, 24 August, 2006.
William is the son of the late Mr John Roscoe and of Mrs Gerard Kenny, of Hartfield, East Sussex, and Belinda is the eldest daughter of Mr David Anthony Nutting (b. 1944), of Terling, Essex, by his wife, the former Tessa Anne Mordaunt.

Belinda is a granddaughter paternally of the Rt Hon Sir Anthony Nutting, 3rd Baronet (by his wife Gillian Strutt, of the Barons Rayleigh); and is a granddaughter maternally of Lt-Col Sir Nigel Mordaunt, 13th Baronet.

Benjamin William Llewellyn Tapps Gervis Meyrick

Alexandra Meyrick (nee Watson) wife since 2000 of Charles Valentine Llewlyn Tapps Gervis Meyrick, [b. 1972], gave birth to a son, Benjamin Willian Llewellyn, 26 July, 2006, a brother for Oliver and Isabella.
