Death of Rear-Admiral Sam Salt, who commanded HMS Sheffield in the Falklands War
the Salt Baronets (cr UK 1899, of Standon) who died 3 December 2009,
aged 69, commanded HMS Sheffield - the first British warship to be
sunk by enemy action after the Second World War
James Frederick Thomas George Salt, always known as Sam, was born 19
April 1940, six months before his father Lt-Cdr George Stevenson Salt
(b 1908), was lost in the submarine Triad which sailed from Malta for
war patrol in the Gulf of Taranto and was never heard from again.
Sam's mother was the former Lilian Bridget Francis.
Rear-Adml Salt married in1975, Penelope Walker, daughter of Anthony
Walker. She survives him with their three sons; another son
predeceased him. Sam's sister is Lady Spencer-Nairn, wife of the 3rd
Baronet, &c.

Very Rev Algernon Giles Seymour, by his wife the former Ida Grace
Hammick, and married Sir Peter, 16 Jul 1949. He died 16 Jan 1998.

St Mary's Church, Woodbridge.

Death of Lady Mairi Bury, daughter of the 7th Marquess of Londonderry
Lady Mairi Bury, 87, was married in 1940 to Derek William Charles Keppel, Viscount Bury (1911-1968), eldest son of Walter Keppel, 9th Earl of Albemarle. They were divorced in 1958.
Lady Mairi lived at Mount Stewart, near Newtownards in County Down, Northern Ireland throughout her life. Mount Stewart is now a property of the National Trust. Her nephew is the 9th and present marquess. Lady Mairi's niece is Lady Annabel Goldsmith.

The marriage took place circa 27 Oct, 2009 between Bernard Donoughue, the Baron Donoughue (born 8 September 1934) a Labour Party politician, academic, businessman and author, and the Hon Lady Berry, widow of the Hon Sir Anthony George Berry, MP (1925-1984), scion of the Viscounts Kemsley, and daughter of the late Raymond Clifford-Turner.
Bernard Donoughue, created a life peer in 1985, was an Opposition Labour spokesman for Energy, Heritage and Treasury matters from 1991 to 1992. In 1997, Tony Blair appointed him a junior minister at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in which role he served until 1999. He later joined the Countryside Alliance against New Labour's policy on Hunting with Dogs, and the Foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.
The Hon Lady Berry is the former Sarah Alice Clifford-Turner (born 1939), daughter of Raymond Clifford Clifford-Turner (1906-1995), of Belgravia, by his wife the former Zoe Vachell (1909-1984); and married 1stly, 5 April, 1966, as his second wife, the Hon Anthony Berry (born 12 Feb, 1925), 6th son of the newspaper proprietor, the 1st Viscount Kemsley (1883-1968). 2009, following a road traffic accident on the previous day. He was
70.
He was born 13 May 1939, the eldest son of Sir Richard Thomas Dyke

He is survived by his2nd wife and three children from his first

Death of John Wellesley, 47, kinsman of the Duke of Wellington
47, was a scion of the Dukes of Wellington. He was b 1962, son of Maj
Richard Wellesley, MC (1920-84), by his 1st wife the former Ruth Haig
Thomas (b 1924), descended from the Earls of Normanton, dau of Peter
Haig-Thomas, by his wife Lady Alexandra Agar.
John's paternal grandfather was Lt-Col Lord George Wellesley
(1889-1967), a yr son of the 4th Duke of Wellington (1949-1934) and a

Death at 91 of Lord Buxton of Alsa
Life peer Aubrey Leland Oakes Buxton was b 15 Jul 918, scion of the Buxton Baronets, son of Leland William Wilberforce Buxton and Ada Mary Oakes, and was educated at Ampleforth College, Yorkshire and Trinity College, Cambridge. Buxton served in the Royal Artillery in the Second World War, having been decorated with the Military Cross in 1943.From 1958 to 1988, he was a Director of Anglia Television. In 1964, Buxton was Extra Equerry to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and in 1972 High Sheriff of Essex. He became Deputy Lieutenant of Essex in 1975 and held this office until 1985.On 11 May 1978, he was created a life peer as Baron Buxton of Alsa, of Stiffkey in the County of Norfolk. In 1996, Buxton, was invested as a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. Lord Buxton of Alsa has been married twice; to Pamela Mary Birkin, daughter of Sir Henry Birkin, 3rd Baronet on 14 November 1946, and after her death in 1983, to Kathleen Peterson on 16 July 1988. He has six children by his first wife, four daughters and two sons.

Carola Eloise Philippi died 2 Aug 2009. She was the dau of John St Maur RAMSDEN (1902-ka1948) and Lady Catherine Mary Clemintina HEATHCOTE-DRUMMOND-WILLOUGHBY (1906-96, dau of 2nd Earl of ANCASTER (now Barons Willoughby de Eresby)) and the granddau of Sir John Frescheville Ramsden 6th Bt (1877-1958) and Joan (d 1974) scion of the Buxton Bts. She m 1st 1961 George Fillmore MILLER III of Princetown, Mass and had a son (Maj Sebastian St Maur MILLER b 1965 and married with a son and a dau). She m 2ndly 1974 Robert E J PHILIPPI son of Col George Philippi of Madrid and had another son (James Jeremy George PHILIPPI b 1975 and married with a son). Sir Edward Archdale, 3rd Baronet, dies
on Friday 31st July after a long illness, aged 87 years. Mentioned in
Dispatches in 1940.—(HMS Sabre, Dunkirk) and awarded the DSC in 1943
(HMS Unbroken, Mediterranean petrols 1942-43). Survived by two
children and three grandchildren. Service to be held at 2 p.m. on
Thursday 13th August at St. Mary's Church, Caterham, Surrey CR3 5RA.

Maj Victor Ronald Seely - dies
He is the son of Maj Sir Victor Basil John SEELY 4th Bt (1900-80) and
his 3rd wife Mary Frances Margaret dau of William Ronald COLLINS of
South Kensington. He married 1972 Annette Bruce dau of Lt-Col J. A. D.
McEWEN, of Salperton House, Salperton, Cheltenham and had an only son
WILLIAM VICTOR CONWAY b 16 Sept 1983 (unm), who succeeds his father as
the present 5th Bt's heir presumptive.

Paulette Howard-Johnston 1904-2009
married in 1955, as his 3rd wife, Rear-Admiral Clarence Dinsmore
"Johnny" Howard-Johnston CB DSO DSC. He was the son of John Howard-
Johnston and Countess Pierre de Breuil de St Germain and had married
1stly Lady Alexandra Henrietta Louisa HAIG, eldest dau of FM 1st Earl
Haig & Hon Dorothy Maud dau of 3rd Baron Vivian. (The late Duchess of
Gloucester and the present Duke of Edinburgh stood sponsors to their
elder and younger sons respectively.)
Mrs Howard-Johnston was a Chevalier of the Légion d' honneur and an
Officier des Arts et des Lettres.
