Lieutenant-Colonel Conway Seymour, LVO 1941-2019

_. Lieutenant-Colonel Conway John Edward Seymour, LVO, stalwart of the Grenadier Guards, sometime adjutant of the regiment, died 20 November, 2019. He was 78.

He was born 13 May, 1941, scion of the Marquesses of Hertford, son of Maj John Edward Seymour [1915-72], by his wife the former Elizabeth Norah Brand [1915-2002], scion of the Viscounts Hampden; married firstly 1969 [divorced 1979] Elizabeth Holdsworth Hunt [born 1947] daughter of Maj Francis Holdsworth Hunt [1914-2011], by his wife Elizabeth Weld Forester, scion of the Barons Forester; married 2ndly, 1981, Diana Elizabeth Gibb [b 1945], daughter of Michael Edward Gibb [1914-70], by his wife the former Ursula Mary Gibbs [1919-2000], scion of the Barons Aldenham & Hunsdon. He leaves a son and a daughter from his first marriage and a daughter from his second marriage.

The Funeral  Service takes place at St Thomas a Becket Church, Todenham, Gloucestershire, on 9 December, 2019.

The Baron Feldman 1923-2019

_. The Lord Feldman, life peer, a plastics tycoon who became a leading figure in the Conservative party, died 19 November, 2019. He was 96.

Feldman was knighted in 1982 and created a life peer in 1996, as Baron Feldman, of Frognal.

Basil Samuel Feldman was born 23 September, 1923, son of Philip F. Feldman [1896-1989], by his wife the former Tilly Katz [1902-77]. His sister was the actress Fenella Fielding [1927-2018].

He married in 1952, Gita Beryl Julius [born 1929], daughter of Albert Abraham Julius [1900-65] by his wife the former Frances Singer [1902-97], by whom he had 2 sons and a daughter.

Hon Mrs Richard Pleydell-Bouverie [died 2019]

_. The Hon Mrs Richard Pleydell-Bouverie, who died 22 November, 2019, aged 68, was the wife of the Hon Richard Oakley Pleydell-Bouverie [born 1947], scion of the Earls of Radnor.

She was born Victoria Waldron, a daughter of Frank Arthur Lovegrove Waldron, by his wife Tatiana [formerly Mrs Blackwall] and married in 1978, the Hon Richard Oakley Pleydell-Bouverie, a younger son of the 7th Earl of Radnor [1895-1968] by his wife the former Anne Isobel Graham Oakley [1908-98], by whom she had two sons and a daughter.

Diana Younger 1932-2019

_. Diana Younger [nee Douglas-Hamilton], who died 21 November, 2019, aged 87, was a scion of the Dukes of Hamilton & Brandon, and a second cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.

She was born in 1932, daughter of Wing Commander Lord Malcolm Douglas-Hamilton, OBE, DFC, MP [1909-64], by his first wife the former Clodagh Pamela Bowes-Lyon [1908-2003], scion of the Earls of Strathmore & Kinghorne.

Her paternal grandfather was the 13th Duke of Hamilton & Brandon [1862-1940], and her great-grandfather (on her mother’s side) was the 13th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne [1824-1904], who was the paternal grandfather of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

She married in 1955 [divorced 1973] Gavin William Younger [1926-2003], kinsman of the Younger baronets, son of Lieut-Col Henry Johnston Younger [1899-1940], by whom she had issue, four sons and a daughter. 

The funeral takes place at the Borders Crematorium, 6 December, 2019.

Sir Peter Molony, 4th Baronet 1937-2019

_. Sir Peter Molony, 4th Baronet, died 18 November, 2019. He was 82.

Peter John Molony was born 17 August, 1937, a son of Sir Joseph Molony, KCVO [1907-78], by his wife the former Carmen Mary Dent [1910-2003]; married 1964, Elizabeth Mary Chaytor, scion of the Chaytor baronets, daughter of Henry Chaytor [1908-97], by whom he had four sons [1 deceased] and a daughter.

He succeeded to the baronetcy in 2014 on the death of his cousin, the 3rd baronet.

Sir Peter is succeeded by his second surviving son, John Benjamin Molony, who was born in 1966.

The funeral will be held at St Mary Magdalene church, Great Elm, 29 November, 2019.

Death of Lady Bengough, widow of courtier

_. Lady Bengough, who died 18 November, 2019, was the widow of Colonel Sir Piers Bengough, KCVO, OBE [1929-2005], a member of the Royal Household and sometime the Queen’s representative at Royal Ascot.
She was the former Bridget Adams, daughter of Dr Frank Adams, of the Isle of Wight, by his wife the former Amy Kathleen Nuttall, and married Piers Bengough in 1952. Her husband, a cavalry officer and amateur rider, served as Her Majesty’s representative at Royal Ascot for 15 years. She leaves two sons.
A service of Thanksgiving takes place at Hereford Cathedral, 6 December, 2019.

Juliet Ramsden dies aged 96

_.Juliet Ramsden, who died 21 Nov, 2019, aged 96, was the wife of the Rt Hon James Ramsden, PC, MP, a former Conservative MP for Harrogate, and a member of Sir Alec Douglas-Home’s cabinet.

Her husband was Tory MP for Harrogate 1954-74, was Secretary of State for War in the brief administration of Sir Alec Douglas-Home, 1963-64. He was sworn of the Privy Council in 1963.

She was a daughter of Sir Charles Ponsonby, 1st Baronet [1879-1976], by his wife the former Hon Winifred Gibbs [1887-1984], scion of the Barons Hunsdon, and married James Ramsden in 1949. She is survived by Mr Ramsden and four of their five children.

Rosemary Anne, Marchioness of Winchester (died 2019)

 Rosemary, Marchioness of Winchester, who died in South Africa, 25 February, 2019, was the widow of the 18th Marquess (1941-2016), the premier Marquess in the Peerage of England.

She was the former Rosemary Anne Hilton, daughter of Major Aubrey Hilton, of Harare, Zimbabwe, and married 25 Nov, 1967, Nigel George Paulet, 18th Marquess of Winchester (born 23 Dec, 1941), son of George Cecil Paulet (1905-1961), and his wife the former Hazel Margaret Wheeler.

She was the mother of two sons, Christopher and Richard, and a daughter, Susan. Her husband died at his home in South Africa, 8 Apr, 2016, and was succeeded in his peerages by the elder son, Christopher, styled Earl of Wiltshire.

The bride-to-be is a great-great granddaughter of King George V and Queen Mary.

She was born Lady Anne Mildred Ismay Fitzroy, 7 August, 1920, the only daughter of the 10th Duke of Grafton [1892-1970], a direct male line descendant of King Charles II. Her mother was the duke's first wife, the former Lady Doreen Maria Josepha Sydney Buxton [1897-1923], daughter of the 1st Earl Buxton; her elder brother was the 11th Duke of Grafton, KG [1919-2011].

Hon Sir James Samuel Joseph, 3rd Baronet 1955-2019

 The Hon Sir James Joseph, 3rd Baronet, died 5 November, 2019. He was 64.

James Samuel Joseph was born 27 January, 1955, son of Sir Keith Joseph, 2nd Baronet, CH, MP, PC, Conservative MP for Leeds North 1956-87, a close adviser to Margaret Thatcher and senior member of the Thatcher administrations, created a life peer, in 1987, as Baron Joseph, of Portsoken in the City of London, by his wife the former Hellen Louise Guggenheimer [who died 21 Aug, 2003].

He succeeded to his father's baronetcy [cr UK, 1943], 10 December, 1994, and married in 1990, Sarah Jane Thwaites, by whom he had two sons, Sam and Thomas.

He is succeeded in the baronetcy by his elder son, Sam Nathan Joseph, who was born 7 August, 1991.

Brian Stanley Mawhinney was the Conservative MP for Peterborough, 1979-1997; was a junior minister in the Northern Ireland Office, 1986; Minister of State for Northern Ireland, 1990; Minister of State, Department of Health 1992-94; cr PC, 1994; Secretary of State for Transport, 1994-; later Chairman of the Conservative Party and Minister without Portfolio; resigned from the Commons in May, 2005; created a life peer as Baron Mawhinney, of Peterborough, 2005.

Lord Mawhinney served as Chairman of the Football League.

Alexander Grimston is a nephew of the 3rd [unmarried] Baron. His father is heir presumptive to the peerage.

Octavia Grimston is a daughter of William S. Wayne, by his wife the former Gillian A. Blyth.

She was born Bridget Wreford, in 1928, a daughter of Major Cyril Frederick Wreford [1899-1978], of Odicknoll, Edginswell, co Devon, by his 2nd wife the former Aphra Mary Esther Bush [1903-74]; she married 28 February, 1952, the Hon David Astor, second son of the 2nd Viscount Astor [1879-1952], by his wife the former Nancy Witcher Langhorne [aka Nancy, Viscountess Astor] [1879-1964].

Her husband died 7 December, 2001, aged 89.

She leaves issue, two sons Richard [born 1955] and Thomas [born 1962], and three daughters, Alice [born 1953], Lucy [1958] and Nancy [born 1960]. She was also step-mother of David Astor's daughter, Frances [born 1947], from his first marriage.

_. Olga Mary Bland [nee Hohler], who died 29 October, 2019, aged 79, was a descendant of the Royal House of Hanover. She was a great-great granddaughter of Prince George, Duke of Cambridge.

She was born at Windsor, 11 October, 1940, daughter of Edward Christopher Hohler [1917-1997], scion of that landed gentry family, by his wife the former Mary Alice Olga Sofia Jane Lane [1919-2014].

Olga's grandfather, Robert Charlton Lane [1873-1943], married 1905, Olga Mary Adelaide FitzGeorge [1877-1928], daughter of Sir Adolphus Augustus Frederick FitzGeorge [1846-1922], son of Field Marshal HRH Prince George, 2nd Duke of Cambridge [1819-1904], grandson of King George III, and a first cousin of Queen Victoria.

Prince George married, in contravention of the Royal Marriages Act 1772, the actress Sarah Louisa Fairbrother [1816-1890]. His wife took the name Mrs FitzGeorge, and their sons took the surname FitzGeorge.

Olga Hohler married 5 July, 1969, Godfrey Hamilton Bland [born 3 July, 1943], son of Capt James Franklin McMahon Bland [1905-84], by his wife the former Jess Buchan Brodie, by whom she had issue, two sons Richard [born 1972], and Alexander [born 1979], and a daughter, Caroline [born 1975].

The funeral takes place at St Nicholas' Church, Sandhurst, Kent, 25 November, 2019.

Sir George Tapps Gervis Meyrick, 7th Baronet 1941-2019

_. Sir George Christopher Cadafael Tapps Gervis Meyrick, 7th Baronet, wealthy landowner, died 24 October, 2019.

He was born 10 March, 1941 the son of Sir George David Eliott Tapps Gervis Meyrick 6th Baronet [1915-1988], by his wife the former Ann Elizabeth Miller [1919-2007]; succeeded to the family baronetcy and the Hinton Admiral estate, near Christchurch, Hampshire, on his father's demise, 1988; married 1968, Jean Louise Montagu Douglas Scott [born 1943], scion of the Dukes of Buccleuch & Queensberry, and niece of HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester [1901-2004]; by whom he had 2 sons and one daughter. The son, George William Owen Tapps Gervis Meyrick [born 1970], who married the novelist Candida Clark, succeeds to the title.

A Service of Thanksgiving takes place at Christchurch Priory, Dorset, 14 November, 2019.

The Hon Alan Duncan Leslie-Melville, who died at Inverness, 26 October, 2019, aged 91, was a scion of the Earls of Leven & Melville; born in 1928, son of the 13th Earl of Leven & Melville, KT [1890-1947], by his wife the former Lady Rosamond Sylvia Diana Foljambe [1893-1974], scion of the Earls of Liverpool; married 1997, the former [Veronica] Sally Watts, daughter of Robert Watts by his wife the former Veronica Pick.
