The Viscountess Simon, wife of the 3rd Viscount, has died aged 83

 _. The Viscountess Simon, wife of the 3rd Viscount, died 14 November, 2020. She was 83.

She was the former Mary Elizabeth Burns, daughter of John Joseph Burns, of Sydney, New South Wales, and married 26 April, 1969, the then Hon Jan David Simon [born 20 July, 1940], son and heir of the 2nd Viscount Simon [1902-1993], and his wife the former [Maud] James Christie Hunt [died 2000], by whom she had a daughter, Fiona.

Her husband succeeded his father in 1993 as 3rd Viscount Simon [Peerage of the UK, cr 1940]. He was Deputy Chairman of Committees, House of Lords, and a Deputy Speaker, and elected to the upper house after the expulsion of the hereditary peers in 1999.

Viscountess Simon is survived by her husband and daughter. Their is no heir to the peerage.

 _. The life peerage awarded to Evgeny Alexandrovich Lebedev, in the prime minister's dissolution honours list, has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Lebedev, of Hampton in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and of Siberia in the Russian Federation, 19 Nov 2020.

I am struggling to find a previous instance of 'Siberia' being included in the territorial designation of a peerage.

Lord Lebedev (born 8 May 1980) is a Russian-British businessman, who is the owner of Lebedev Holdings Ltd, which owns the Evening Standard, The Independent and the TV channel London Live. In July 2020, Lebedev was nominated for a life peerage by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, a move that drew criticism.

Hugh Barkley Gonnerman Dalgety 1943-2020

The Baron Stoddart of Swindon 1926-2020

 _. Lord Stoddart of Swindon, a life peer, died 14 November, 2020, aged 94.

David Leonard Stoddart was born 4 May 1926. He was a British politician who served as Member of Parliament for Swindon from 1970 to 1983, and as a life peer in the House of Lords from 1983 to his death in 2020. He served as a Labour peer from 1983 to 2002, when he was expelled from the Labour benches, after which he sat as an Independent Labour peer until his death.

Stoddart was a member of the County Borough Council of Reading from 1954 to 1972 and the Leader of the Council from 1967 to 1972.  He was the Labour candidate for Newbury in 1959 and 1964, and narrowly lost at Swindon in a by-election in 1969.

Stoddart became the Labour Member of Parliament for Swindon in 1970, but in 1983 he lost his seat to the Conservative Simon Coombs. Stoddart was a government whip from 1975 to 1978, PPC to the Housing Minister 1974–75 and Front Bench opposition spokesman on Trade and Industry.

Stoddart was raised to the peerage as a life peer on 14 September 1983 taking the title Baron Stoddart of Swindon, of Reading in the Royal County of Berkshire. He was Chief Front Bench spokesman on energy 1983–1988 and served as House of Lords Whip during the same period.

He was expelled from the Labour benches in the House of Lords in 2002 for backing a Socialist Alliance candidate in the 2001 general election, an action he took because he strongly opposed the parachuting of Shaun Woodward, a defector from the Conservative Party, into the safe Labour seat of St Helens South.

Stoddart was for many years the Chairman of the Campaign for an Independent Britain, which campaigns for the United Kingdom to end its membership of the European Union, a position he held from 1985 until May 2007. In 2016, he expressed his support for the upcoming EU referendum, urging withdrawal from the European Union.

 _. Lady Cox, who died 11 November, 2020, aged 86, was the widow of Vice Admiral Sir John Cox, KCB, scion of the Seth-Smith landed gentry family, and mother of the Earl of Radnor.

She was born Anne Garden Farquharson Seth-Smith, daughter of Donald Farquharson Seth-Smith, and married firstly, 8 July, 1953 [div 1962], Jacob Pleydell-Bouverie [1927-2008], then styled Viscount Folkestone [from 1968, 8th Earl of Radnor], son of the 7th Earl of Radnor [1895-1968], and his first wife the former Helena Olivia Adeane [1902-85], scion of that landed family. He was born 19 December, 1932, son of Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Niall Talbot Rankin [1904-65], and his wife the Lady Jean Margaret Florence Dalrymple, DCVO [1905-2001] long serving Woman of the Bedchamber to HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

He succeeded to the baronetcy, 25 April, 1988, on the death of his uncle, Sir Hubert Rankin, 3rd Baronet.

Sir Niall served as a lieutenant in the Scots Guards; was Chairman of Slumberfleece Ltd; a Director Lindsay and Williams Ltd [1973]; a Director of Bayfine Ltd and subsidiaries 1974-85 [joint Chairman 1974-81]; Director, Highgate Optical and Industrial Co Ltd and subsidiary, 1976-84 [Joint Chairman 1976-81] Director New Arcadia Explorations Ltd [1987]; Director, Bristol Scotts, 1993-2001; Partron of the Samaritans from 1991; Member of the Council, Alexandra Rose Day; &c.

He married firstly, 2 July, 1959 [div 1967], Alexandra Durlacher [born 1937], daughter of Admiral Sir Laurence George Durlacher, KCB, OBE, DSC [1904-86]; married 2ndly, 1988 [div 1998], as her second husband, June Marsham-Townshend [born 30 June, 1942], scion of the Earls of Romney; married 3rdly, 4 June, 2013, Prudence Sporborg, who survives him. He leaves a son and a daughter from his first marriage, and a son from his second marriage. The elder son, Gavin Niall Rankin, born 19 May, 1962, succeeds to the baronetcy.

 _. The Lady Moyra Campbell, CVO, who died in Belfast, 8 November, 2020, aged 90, was a scion of the Dukes of Abercorn and a Maid of Honour to HM The Queen at the Coronation, 2 June, 1953.

Lady Moyra served as a Lady in Waiting [Temp] to HRH Princess Alexandra, the Hon Lady Ogilvy 1954-64, then Lady in Waiting 1964-66, and an Extra Lady in Waiting 1966-69.

In 1953, aged 22, she was selected to be one of the Queen's Maids of Honour [train bearers] at the Coronation, and was the second eldest of the six ladies, all daughters of peers, chosen to partake in the ceremony. The others were Lady Jane Vane-Tempest-Stewart, daughter of the Marquess of Londonderry, Lady Mary Baillie-Hamilton, daughter of the Earl of Haddington, Lady Anne Coke [later Lady Glenconner], daughter of the Earl of Leicester, and Lady Rosemary Spencer-Churchill, daughter of the Duke of Marlborough.

Lady Moyra was a first cousin of the 8th Earl Spencer [1924-92], father of Diana, Princess of Wales.

She married 12 November, 1966, Commander Peter Colin Drummond Campbell, LVO, RN, of Hollybrook House, Randalstown, Co Antrim, son of Major-General Sir [Alexander] Douglas Campbell, KBE, CB, DSO, MC, by whom she had issue, two sons, Rory and Michael.

Philip Lavallin Wroughton was born 19 April, 1933, son of Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Lavallin Wroughton [1908-1972], and his wife the former Elizabeth Angela Rate [1904-1990], and was educated at Eton.

Career: National Service 1951-53; 2nd Lieutenant King's Royal Rifle Corps; with Price Forbes & Co Ltd 1954-61; C.T. Bowring and Co Ltd, 1961-96; Director, Marsh & MacLennan Cos Inc., 1988-96 Vice Chairman, 1994-96]; Chairman, Venton Underwriting Agencies Ltd, 1996-99; later a Director of Newmarket Underwriting Ltd; Member of the Council of Lloyds, 1992-95; High Sheriff of Berkshire, 1977; DL, Berkshire, 1994; Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, 1995-2008.

He was appointed KCVO in 2008.

Sir Philip married in 1957, Catriona Henrietta Ishbel MacLeod, daughter of Angus MacLeod, of Skeabost, Isle of Skye, by whom he had two daughters, Kirsten and Carolyn.

She was born Lavinia Joan Lascelles, 27 June, 1923, daughter of the Rt Hon Sir Alan Frederick [Tommy] Lascelles, GCB, GCVO, CMG, MC [1887-1981], by his wife the former Hon Joan Frances Vere Thesiger [1895-1971], daughter of the 1st Viscount Chelmsford [1868-1933].

She was a great-granddaughter of the 4th Earl of Harewood. HRH The Prince of Wales [later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor] stood sponsor at her christening.

Her father served as Assistant Private Secretary to HRH The Prince of Wales [later King Edward VIII] 1920-29, Assistant Private Secretary to King George V 1935-36, Assistant Private Secretary to King Edward VIII in 1936, Assistant Private Secretary to King George VI 1936-43, then Private Secretary to King George VI 1943-52, and finally Private Secretary and Keeper of the Queen's Archives to Queen Elizabeth II, 1952-3.

Lavinia Lascelles married 1stly, 30 March, 1946 [divorced 1960], Maj Edward Westland Renton, of The Black Watch; she married 2ndly, 1 Feb 1962 [div 1964], Gavin Maxwell, the author, who died in 1969, scion of the Maxwell baronets; married 3rdly, in 1969, as his second wife, Commander David Kyrle Hankinson, RN [1928-2011], a naval gunnery officer and successful portrait painter. She was widowed, 4 Apr, 2011.

Sally Maitland-Makgill-Crichton married firstly, 10 July, 1958, Count Alessandro Monneret de Villard. She married 2ndly, in 1984, Francesco Boscu. She leaves three daughters from her first marriage, Raffaela [born 9 Oct 1961], Xenia [born 15 May 1965], and Tatiana [born 1970].

Sally Boscu was descended in the male line from the 6th Earl of Lauderdale [1688-1744], and was a granddaughter maternally of Brigadier-General Sir George Ayscough Armytage, 7th Baronet [1872-1953], and his wife the former  Aimée Milborne-Swinnerton-Pilkington, scion of the baronets of that name.

The Baron Sacks, MBE 1948-2020

 _. The Baron Sacks, MBE, life peer, a former Chief Rabbi of the UK, died 7 November, 2020. He was 72.

Jonathan Henry Sacks [born 8 March, 1948], was a British Orthodox rabbi, philosopher, theologian, author and politician.

He served as the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth from 1991 to 2013. As the spiritual head of the United Synagogue, the largest synagogue body in the UK, he was the Chief Rabbi of those Orthodox synagogues, but was not recognized as the religious authority for the Haredi Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations or for the progressive movements such as Masorti, Reform and Liberal Judaism. As Chief Rabbi, Sacks formally carried the title of Av Beit Din (head) of the London Beth Din. At the time of his death, he was the Emeritus Chief Rabbi.

Tony Woodley (born 2 January 1948) is a British trade unionist who was the Joint-General Secretary of Unite, a union formed through the merger of Amicus and the Transport and General Workers' Union, from 2007 to 2011. Despite stepping down as Joint-General Secretary, he remained as the Head of Organising for Unite until December 2013 and is still a consultant to the union. He was previously the General Secretary of the Transport and General Workers union (T&G) from 2004 to 2007.

She became director general of Troubled Families on 1 November 2011. He married firstly, 17 Oct, 1967, Lea Wild [born 8 Oct, 1945], daughter of Col. Henry Nöel Havelock Wild, OBE, late the 11th Hussars, by his wife the former Violet Nina Selby-Lowdnes, scion of that landed gentry family; married 2ndly, in 1982, Mrs Sarah Julianne [Sally] Colebrook-Robjent [died 2019], daughter of Reginald Waugh Harris [1907-87], & his wife the former Grace Susan Williamson [1905-79].

 _. The death has been reported of the Lady Elizabeth Anson, CVO, the party planner, socialite, first cousin once removed of the Queen. Lady Elizabeth died 1 November, 2020.

Lady Elizabeth has been planning parties for her cousin, The Queen, since 1960. Notable events has she planned include Sting's wedding, Margaret Thatcher's 70th birthday party, Elizabeth II's 80th birthday party, the wedding of Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece, and Marie-Chantal Miller and a reception for foreign royals the night before the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel.

As the step-daughter of a Danish prince, Lady Elizabeth has also attended many royal events in continental Europe, including the 80th birthday celebrations in Oslo of The King and Queen of Norway, and the funeral of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg. In 1966, Lady Elizabeth was a bridesmaid at the wedding of Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands and Jonkheer Claus van Amsberg. In 2018, Lady Elizabeth attended the state banquet given by The Queen in honour of The King and Queen of the Netherlands at Buckingham Palace.

She was born at Windsor Castle, as Elizabeth Georgiana Anson, 7 June, 1941, the only daughter of Lt-Col Thomas Arnold Anson, styled Viscount Anson [1913-1958], by his first wife the former Anne Ferelith Fenella Bowes Lyon [1917-80], niece of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

King George VI stood sponsor at her christening.

Her mother married, as her second husband, 16 Sept, 1950, HRH Prince Georg of Denmark [1920-86].

Elizabeth Anson's paternal grandfather was the 4th Earl of Lichfield [1883-1960], and on his death Elizabeth's brother, Patrick, the society photographer, succeeded as 5th Earl. She was subsequently raised to the rank of an earl's daughter, by Royal Warrant, in 1961.

# The American actress Colleen Camp [born 7 June, 1953], a character actress and producer, is the daughter of one Mr Wilson Camp. Could Garrett Moore be marrying a lady born the same year as his own mother?

After appearing in several bit parts, Miss Camp had a lead role in the comedy The Swinging Cheerleaders (1974), followed by roles in two installments of the Police Academy series. Camp appeared in supporting parts in Death Game (1977), Apocalypse Now (1979), and The Seduction (1982), after which she played Yvette the Maid in the 1985 comedy Clue. Camp has continued to have minor and supporting roles in various independent and studio films, including Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995), Election (1999), Factory Girl (2006), Palo Alto (2013), and American Hustle (2013).

Lord Shutt of Greetland 1942-2020

 _. The Lord Shutt of Greetland, life baron, Liberal Democrat politician, died 30 October, 2020. He was 78.

He served as Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard [Deputy Chief Whip in the House of Lords] 2010-2012, in the Coalition Government led by David Cameron.

David Trevor Shutt was born 16 March, 1942. He stood unsuccessfully for Parliament at seven general elections between 1970 and 1992. He contested Sowerby in 1970, February 1974, October 1974, and 1979. After the abolition of the Sowerby seat, he contested the new Calder Valley constituency in 1983 and 1987. At the 1992 general election he was the Liberal Democrat candidate in Pudsey. 

David Shutt was appointed OBE in 1993, and in 2000 was created a life peer, taking the title Baron Shutt of Greetland, of Greetland and Stainland in the County of West Yorkshire. He was the Lib Dem spokesman on International Development until 2002. 

He married Margaret Pemberton in 1965, by whom he had two sons and a daughter.
