Sir Ian Rankin, 4th Baronet 1932-2020

 _. Sir Ian Niall Rankin, 4th Baronet, died 10 November, 2020. He was 87. He was a former Chairman of I.N. Rankin Oil Ltd.

He was born 19 December, 1932, son of Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Niall Talbot Rankin [1904-65], and his wife the Lady Jean Margaret Florence Dalrymple, DCVO [1905-2001] long serving Woman of the Bedchamber to HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

He succeeded to the baronetcy, 25 April, 1988, on the death of his uncle, Sir Hubert Rankin, 3rd Baronet.

Sir Niall served as a lieutenant in the Scots Guards; was Chairman of Slumberfleece Ltd; a Director Lindsay and Williams Ltd [1973]; a Director of Bayfine Ltd and subsidiaries 1974-85 [joint Chairman 1974-81]; Director, Highgate Optical and Industrial Co Ltd and subsidiary, 1976-84 [Joint Chairman 1976-81] Director New Arcadia Explorations Ltd [1987]; Director, Bristol Scotts, 1993-2001; Partron of the Samaritans from 1991; Member of the Council, Alexandra Rose Day; &c.

He married firstly, 2 July, 1959 [div 1967], Alexandra Durlacher [born 1937], daughter of Admiral Sir Laurence George Durlacher, KCB, OBE, DSC [1904-86]; married 2ndly, 1988 [div 1998], as her second husband, June Marsham-Townshend [born 30 June, 1942], scion of the Earls of Romney; married 3rdly, 4 June, 2013, Prudence Sporborg, who survives him. He leaves a son and a daughter from his first marriage, and a son from his second marriage. The elder son, Gavin Niall Rankin, born 19 May, 1962, succeeds to the baronetcy.
