Sir John Johnston, GCVO, MC, Comptroller, Lord Chamberlain's Office, 1981-87 (Assistant Comptroller, 1964-81); Extra Equerry to Queen Elizabeth II from 1965, died 10 September, 2006. He was aged 84.John Frederick Dame Johnston was born 24 August, 1922, and was educated at Ampleforth. Career:-->served in the Grenadier Guards, 1941-64; joined the Royal Household in 1964; President, King George V Fund for Actors and Actresses; President, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.He lived in a "Grace and Favour" home in Windsor Great Park.MC (1945); MVO (1971); CVO (1977); KCVO (1981); GCVO (1987).He married in 1949, the Hon Elizabeth Rosemary Hardinge (1927-1995), daughter of the 2nd Baron Hardinge of Penshurst, PC, GCB, GCVO, MC, by whom he had one son and one daughter.
