_.The engagement was announced 31 March, 2021, between James MacKean, son of Mr & Mrs Charles MacKean, of Dunfermline, and Elizabeth Katherine Wemyss [born 1985], daughter of Charles John Wemyss (born 26 July, 1952), of Invermay, and his wife the former Fiona Elizabeth Penn [born 1956].
Elizabeth Wemyss is a granddaughter maternally of the courtier Lt-Col Sir Eric Penn, GCVO [1916-93], scion of that landed gentry family, and his wife the former Prudence Stewart-Wilson [Prue, Lady Penn, Woman of the Bechamber to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother], scion of the Stewart-Stevens landed family, of Balrakeilly.
Elizabeth Wemyss is a granddaughter paternally of David Wemyss of that Ilk [1920-2005], and his wife Lady Jean Bruce, daughter of the 10th Earl of Elgin and Kincardine. Her great-grandfather Capt. Michael John Wemyss of Wemyss (1888-1982), married Lady Victoria Alexandrina Violet Cavendish-Bentinck, CVO (who d. in 1994, aged 104), daughter of the 6th Duke of Portland.
The bride-to-be is a kinswoman of HM The Queen. Both share Cavendish-Bentinck ancestry.
