7th Baron Ashburton, KG, KCVO, DL 1928-2020

 _. The Lord Ashburton, KG, the 7th baron, died 6 October, 2020. He was 91.

Lord Ashburton was Chairman, Baring Bros 1974-89 and Barings plc 1985-89; CVO 1980; Director, Bank of England 1983-91; knighted 1983; Non-executive director, Barings plc 1989-94 ; Lord Warden of the Stannaries and Keeper of the Privy Seal of the Duchy of Cornwall 1990-94; KCVO 1990; Deputy Lieutenant, Hampshire 1994; Knight of the Garter 1994; Chairman and/or Director of many private and public companies, &c.

John Francis Harcourt Baring was born 2 November, 1928, elder son of the 6th Baron Ashburton, KG, KCVO [1898-1991], by his wife the former Hon Doris Mary Therese Harcourt [died 1981], daughter of the 1st Viscount Harcourt.

John Baring married firstly, 25 Nov, 1955 [divorced 1984] the Hon Susan Mary Renwick [born 5 June, 1930],  daughter of the 1st Baron Renwick, KBE [1904-73]; married 2ndly, 27 Oct, 1987, Mrs Sarah Cornelia Crewe [born 1935], former wife of James Colin Crewe, great-niece of Sir Winston Churchill, KG, the only daughter of Maj John George Spencer-Churchill [1909-92].

John Baring succeeded to the peerage on his father's death, 12 June, 1991.

The 7th Baron leaves issue by his first marriage, two sons, Mark and Alexander, and two daughters, Lucinda and Rose. The peerage now devolves upon the elder son, the Hon Mark Francis Robert Baring, who was born 17 August, 1958.
