_. Anne Countess Attlee, who died 31 May, 2018, aged 87, was the first wife of the late 2nd Earl Attlee (1927-91), and was the daughter-in-law of the British Prime Minister, Clement Attlee.
She was the former Anne Barbara Henderson, daughter of James Henderson, CBE, author, of Bath, Somerset, and married the then Mr Martin Richard Attlee, 16 February, 1955.
Martin Attlee was the only son of the Labour Party leader and former prime minister Clement Attlee, who, in December, 1955 was elevated to the peerage upon his retirement. He was created Viscount Prestwood and Earl Attlee.
Martin Attlee and his wife were known as Viscount and Viscountess Prestwood until the death of the 1st Earl Attlee, 8 Oct, 1967, when he succeeded to the peerages.
She and Lord Attlee divorced in 1988, and he died 27 July, 1991.
Countess Attlee leaves a son, John, the 3rd Earl Attlee, who was born in 1956, and a daughter, Lady Jane Attlee, who was born in 1959.
The funeral will be held at Marylebone Crematorium, East Finchley, London, Thurs 14 June, 2018.
