Colonel Gerald William Alistair Napier, who died 23 February, 2026, aged 93, was a scion of the Lords Napier of Merchistoun.
He was born 23 November, 1932, the second son of Brig. John Lennox Clavering Napier, CBE (1898-1966), and his wife the former Grace Edythe Muriel Young (died 3 January, 1999); and was descended from Francis, 8th Lord Napier of Merchistoun (1758-1823).
He married 23 April, 1962, Marjorie Currie Torrance (1938-2023), daughter of Robert Torrance, of Peebles, by whom he had issue, three sons, Alexander John Robert (1963-2001), who worked for AON Trade Credit and was killed in the terror attack on the Twin Towers, 9/11; Mark (born 19 May, 1964), and George (born 27 May, 1967).
