Major Wyndham Holmes Austen Knight, MBE, who died 13 October, 2023, aged 86, was late the 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales' Dragoon Guards), and a scion of the Knight landed family, of Chawton, Hampshire.
He was born 11 June, 1937, son of Lt-Col Austen Bertram Knight, MC (1897-1976), and his wife the former Beatrice Anna Holmes (who died 19 Feb, 1965), and was a descendant of Jane Austen's brother, Edward.
He married 9 March, 1963, Virginia Marcia Hughes, eldest daughter of Michael Hughes, of The Lodge, Swallowfield, near Reading, Berkshire, by whom he had issue, a son, James, and two daughters, Harriet and Claudia.
