The 4th Baron Baden-Powell 1940-2023

The 4th Baron Baden-Powell, who died 2 July, 2023, aged 82, was the grandson of the founder of the global Scout movement.

David Michael Baden-Powell was born in Zimbabwe, 11 December,1940, second son of the 2nd Baron Baden-Powell (1913-62), and his wife the former Carine Crause-Boardman (1909-93), and was a younger brother of the 3rd Baron (1936-2019), and succeeded to the peerage (created UK 1929), upon his brother's death, 28 December, 2019.

David Baden-Powell moved to Britain after his father inherited the title in 1949 and migrated to Australia in 1965 where he made a career in insurance. The lifelong scouting enthusiast was honoured for his work for the movement by Scouting associations in Malaysia, Japan and the US. Baden-Powell also served with the Australia Day Council’s Victorian branch and as master of Glen Waverley’s Baden Powell Masonic Lodge.

He married 20 August, 1966, Joan Phillips Berryman, daughter of Horace William Berryman, of Camberwell, Melbourne, Australia, by whom he had issue, three sons, David, Alexander and Myles. The peerage (cr 1929) and baronetcy (cr 1922), now devolve upon the peer's eldest son, the Hon David Robert Baden-Powell, who was born 6 January, 1971.
