The engagement was announced 8 December, 2021, between Felix Simon Hartley Russell [born 1993], eldest son of Mr Willie Hartley Russell, MVO, DL, High Sheriff of Berkshire, and Mrs Miranda Dorich [nee Oliver], of Bucklebury, Berkshire, and the Lady Beatrice Hannah Georgina Hill [born 10 Feb, 1994], second daughter of the 9th Marquess of Downshire [born 4 February, 1959], of Clifton Castle, North Yorkshire, and his wife the former Diana Jane Bunting [born 12 September, 1962].
The Bucklebury Estate, is situated in the Pang Valley, Berkshire. Currently it extends to approximately 1600 acres in the parishes of Bucklebury and Stanford Dingley and comprises of farms, forestry, residential and commercial property. It also owns Bucklebury Common. The Estate has descended through the same family since 1540 to the current owner, Willie Hartley Russell.
Felix Hartley Russell is a grandson of Derek Hartley Russell, who married Pamela Hurt, the eldest daughter of Francis Hurt of Alderwasley Hall in Derbyshire. Pam and Derek Hartley Russell moved to Bucklebury House in 1958 and began the task of restoring Bucklebury House for the first time since it was largely destroyed in the fire of 1832. Derek Hartley Russell was Chairman of Berkshire County Council (1967-1970) and High Sheriff of Berkshire (1973-1974). He died in 1991, when his second son, Willie, inherited the Bucklebury Estate. Willie is High Sheriff of Berkshire (2021-2022) and also Chairman of the family’s charitable trust, The Donnington Hospital Trust.
