_. Rupert Nicholas Hambro, CBE, who died 19 February, 2021, aged 77, was a scion of the eponymous banking landed gentry dynasty, and a chairman of Hambros Bank.
He was a great-grand grandson of the Danish-born Carl Hambro, who founded Hambros Bank in 1839, and a grandson of Olaf Hambro, chairman of the bank, 1932-60.
He was born 27 June, 1943, the eldest son of Maj Jocelyn Olaf Hambro, MC [1919-94], of Waverton House, Gloucestershire, and his first wife, the former Ann Silvia Muir [who died 1972]. [His father's second wife was the widowed Elisabeth, Duchess of Roxburghe, widow of the 9th Duke, of Floors Castle.
Old Etonian Rupert Hambro married in 1970, Mary Robinson Gillam Boyer, daughter of Francis Boyer, by whom he had issue, a son, Jonathan [born in 1974], and a daughter, Flora [born in 1976].
