Hon Jennifer Lowther 1932-2021

 _. The Hon Mrs Jennifer Lowther, who died in Lincoln, 23 February, 2021, aged 88, was a scion of the Viscounts Ullswater, and a former Countess of Lonsdale.

She was born Jennifer Lowther,  11 June, 1932, a daughter of Maj the Hon Christopher William Lowther, MP [1887-1935], and his second wife the former Dorothy Bromley Davenport [1899-1969], and was a granddaughter of the 1st Viscount Ullswater [1855-1949], who, as James Lowther, MP, was Speaker of the House of Commons, 1902-21, and ennobled on his retirement from the Commons.

Jennifer Lowther was raised to the rank of a Viscount's daughter, following her grandfather's death [her father, his heir, having predeased him].

She married firstly, 9 Sept, 1954 [divorced 1962], as his second wife, her cousin, James Hugh William Lowther, 7th Earl of Lonsdale [1922-2006], son of Anthony, Viscount Lowther [1896-1949], and his wife the former Muriel Frances Farrar [died 1968], scion of the Farrar baronets [ext]; she married 2ndly, 15 Dec, 1962 [div 1972], William Edward Clayfield [died 2010], son of Walter Clayfield; she married 3rdly, 29 March, 1976 [div 1980], the Rev. Oswald Dickin Carter [died 1986]; and married 4thly, in 1981, James Cornelius Sullivan.

She resumed her maiden name of Lowther in 1989.

The Hon Jennifer Lowther leaves one son from her first marriage, the Hon William Lowther [born 9 July, 1957], and two daughters, Lady Miranda Lowther [b 1 July, 1955], and Lady Caroline Lowther [b 11 March, 1959].
