_. Dr [Hylton] Judith Grenville-Wells, who died 23 January, 2021, aged 94, was a scion of the Wells landed gentry family, formerly of Bickley Hall and Holmewood, and descended from the 1st Baron Hylton.
Dr Grenville-Wells was Emeritus Reader of crystallography, University College London.
She was born 18 January, 1927, the second daughter of Lieutenant-Commander Yvo Hedworth Fortescue Grenville Wells, RN [1893-1936], and his wife the former Clara Isabella Wheaton.
Her grandfather Hubert Hedworth Grenville Wells [1857-1904], married Ethel Mary Croft [died 1935], 5th daughter of Sir John Croft, 2nd Baronet, of Cowling Hall.
Judith's elder sister, Barbara Mandell [1920-98], was th first woman to present the news on a national television service in Britain, presenting the midday news when ITV began in 1955.
She married in 1958, Derek Milledge [1930-2000].
