Martin Robert Morland, CMG [1933- 2020]

_. Martin Robert Morland, CMG, diplomat, who died 28 April, 2020, aged 86, was descended from the extinct Barons Lindley, and the Fraser, Lords Lovat.

Morland, who served in the Grenadier Guards, was Counsellor and Head of Chancery at Washinton, 1979-82, Under Secretary at the Cabinet Office, 1984-86, Ambassador to Burma, 1986-90, Ambassador and UK Permanent Representative to the Office of the United Nations and other international organisations at Geneva, 1990-93.

He was born 23 Sept, 1933, a son of Sir Oscar Charles Morland, GBE, KCMG [1904-80], sometime British Ambassador to Japan and Indonesia, by his wife the former Alice Elizabeth Lindley, daughter of the Rt Hon Sir Francis Oswald Lindley [1872-1950], by his wife the former Hon Etheldreda Mary Fraser [1872-1949], daughter of the 13th Lord Lovat [1828-87].

He married 6 June, 1964, Jennifer Avril Mary Hanbury-Tracy [1941-2018], scion of the Barons Sudeley, daughter of Ninian John Frederick Hanbury-Tracy [1910-1971], by his 1st wife the former Hon Blanche Mary Arundell [1908-93], daughter of the 15th Baron Arundell of Wardour [1861-1939].

Martin Morland leaves issue, two sons Will and Anthony and a daughter, Catherine.
