Baroness Fisher of Rednal

The Baroness Fisher of Rednal, who died 18 December, 2005, at the age of 86, was, as Doris Fisher, the Labour MP for the Ladywood Division of Birmingham 1970-74, and later a MEP.
She was born Doris Mary Gertrude Satchwell, 13 September, 1919, daughter of Frederick James Satchwell, BEM, and was educated at Tinker's Farm Girls' School, Fircroft College, and Bournville Day Continuation College.
Career: a JP for Birmingham; a City Councillor, Birmingham, 1952-74; National President of the Co-operative Guild, 1961-62; Crown Representative of the General Medical Council from 1975; a Member of Warrington New Town Development Corporation from 1975; Member of the New Towns Staff Commission from 1976; President, Birmingham Royal Institute for the Blind from 1987; Pres, British Fluoridation Soc since 1994; Guardian Birmingham Assay Office 1982-89; Member of Hallmarking Council from 1989; MP for Ladywood Div. of Birmingham, 1970-74; Member of the European Parliament, Strasbourg, 1975-81; created a life peer as Baroness Fisher of Rednal, of Rednal in the City of Birmingham, 1974; &c.
She married in 1939, Joseph Fisher (now deceased), and had issue, two daughters, Pauline and Veronica.
Funeral Service at Lodgehill Crematorium, Birmingham on Friday, 23 December, 2005, at 12.30 p.m.
