Alethea Catherine Hayter

Alethea Catharine Hayter, OBE, the writer, died 10 January, 2006, aged 94. She was born 7 November, 1911, the daughter of Sir William Goodenough Hayter, KBE (b. 23 Jan 1869; d. 5 Aug 1924), by his wife Alethea, daughter of the Rev. J.H. Slessor; and was granddaughter of Henry Goodenough Hayter, of Winterbourne, Sidmouth, Devon.

Her father was Consul to the Sultan of Egypt, 1915; Legal Adviser to HM British Residency at Cairo, 1918; &c.
Her siblings:-
Sir William Goodenough Hayter, KCMG (b. 1 Aug 1906; d. 1995) British Ambassador to Moscow, 1953-57, and Warden of New College, Oxford, 1958-76, who died 28 March, 1995, aged 88.
Priscilla Hayter, writer, later Mrs Napier, wife of Trevelyan Michael Napier, son of Vice-Admiral Sir Trevelyan Dacres Willes Napier.
