Rt Hon James Edward Ramsden, PC 1923-2020
His home was at Old Sleningford Hall, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.
Mr Ramsden served as MP for Harrogate, 1954-74, and he served under Harold Macmillan as Under-Secretary of State and Financial Secretary for War from 1960 to 1963 and under Sir Alec Douglas-Home as Secretary of State for War from 1963 to 1964. At the April 1964 reshuffle, the former cabinet positions of First Lord of the Admiralty and Secretary of State for Air, along with Ramsden's post, were incorporated into an expanded Ministry of Defence, under the leadership of the new position of Secretary of State for Defence.
Ramsden was appointed Minister of State for the Army at the Ministry of Defence, a post he held until Sir Alec Douglas-Home's government fell in October 1964. He was sworn of the Privy Council in 1963. His successor in the Harrogate constituency was Robert Banks.
He was born at Liverpool, 1 Nov, 1923, son of Capt Edward Ramsden, MC, of Breckamore Hall, near Ripon, by his wife the former Geraldine Wilson [1888-1976]; and married 25 June, 1949, Juliet Ponsonby [1923-2019], scion of the Ponsonby baronets, daughter of Colonel Sir Charles Ponsonby, 1st Baronet [1879-1976], by his wife the former Hon Winifred Marian Gibbs [died 1984], daughter of the 1st Baron Hunsdon [1854-1935].
Mrs Juliet Ramsden died 21 November, 2019, aged 96.
James Ramsden leaves issue, three sons Thomas, George and Richard, and a daughter, Emma. He was predeceased by his youner daughter, the artist Charlotte Cheverton, who died as the result of a motoring accident in 1991.

Major-Gen The 2nd Baron Alvingham, CBE, DL 1926-2020
Robert Guy Eardley Yerburgh was born 16 December, 1926, son of the then Robert Daniel Thwaites Yerburgh [1889-1955], Conservative MP for South Dorset, 1922-29, created a peer, in June, 1929, as Baron Alvingham, of Woodfold, in the County Palatine of Lancaster.
Robert's mother, Dorothea, died a few months after his birth, in February, 1927, aged 44.
He succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Alvingham, 27 November, 1955. He served in the Coldstream Guards retiring in 1981 as a Major-General, and Director of Army Quartering.
Lord Alvingham married 31 March, 1952, Beryl Elliott Williams, daughter of William David Williams, of Hindhead, Surrey, by whom he had issue, a son, Robert, and a daughter, Susannah. The son, Capt the Hon Robert Richard Guy Yerburgh, who was born 10 Dec, 1956, now succeeds as 3rd Baron Alvingham.

He was born 3 April, 1932, a son of Professor Victor Wilkinson Dix, FRCS [1899-1992], by his wife the former Nanny Uarda Elsie Vernon [1901-1998], scion of the Vernon baronets; and married 11 April, 1964, Kristina Mary Sidley, daughter of John Charles Sidley, OBE [1884-1946], by his wife the former Phyllis Mary Lewis [1900-79], by whom he had three daughters, Caroline, Philippa and Rosemary.

Brenda Brufal De Melgarejo, Marquesa de Lendinez [died 2020]
Her husband was a proud Gibraltarian who opposed Spanish attempts to cajole Britain into handing over the colony. He died in 2018.
The Marquesa is survived by a son, Jonathan, and a daughter, Tabitha.
A private family cremation takes place in the UK on 16 April. A memorial service and burial in Gibraltar will take place later in the year.

She married 14 Apr, 1950, Brigadier Stafford Nugent Floyer-Acland [1916-1994], scion of the Acland baronets, son of Lieut-Gen Arthur Nugent Floyer-Acland [1885-1980], by his wife the former Evelyn Stafford Still [died 1973], by whom he had issue, 2 sons, Andrew and Richard, and a daughter, Victoria.

The Lady Sarah Louise Neill-Fraser (nee Erskine), who died 25 March, 2020, aged 88, was a scion of the Earls of Buchan.
She was born Lady Sarah Louise Erskine, 14 July, 1931, the elder daughter of the 16th Earl of Buchan (1899-1984), and his wife the former Christina Baxendale (died 1994); and married 12 June, 1957 (div 1972), Maj Norman Neill-Fraser, son of Maj William Neill-Fraser, by whom she had issue, one son, (James Montagu) Nicholas Neill-Fraser (born 19 January, 1959),

Lady Alexandra is the elder but only surviving daughter of the 3rd Earl Mountbatten of Burma (b 1947) of Broadlands, Hampshire, by his wife the former Penelope Meredith Eastwood (b 1953).
Thomas Hooper is a son of Peter Huntly Hooper, by his wife the former Patricia Bucknill.
The Hoopers married at Romsey Abbey, 25 June, 2016. HRH The Prince of Wales gave the bride in marriage.

The 13th Earl of Galloway 1928-2020
Randolph Keith Reginald Stewart was born 14 October, 1928, son of the 12th Earl of Galloway [1892-1978], landowner, by his wife the former Philippa Fendall Wendell [died 22 Feb, 1974], daughter of Jacob Wendell, of New York.
Randolph, known by the courtesy title of Lord Garlies from his birth, was dogged by mental issues throughout his life. He married, 17 October, 1975, Mrs May Lily Budge [who died 29 Oct, 1999], daughter of Andrew Miller, of Duns, Berwickshire. The marriage was seen by his family as an unsuitable match, and his father disinherited his son and heir.
Randolph, Lord Garlies, succeeded his father, 13 June, 1978, as 13th Earl of Galloway [Peerage of Scotland cr 1623], Lord Garlies [Peerage of Scotland, cr 1607], Baron Stewart of Garlies [Peerage of GB, cr 1796]; the 12th Baronet, of 'Corsewell' [cr 1627], and 10th Baronet, of 'Burray' [cr 1687].
Lord Galloway is succeeded in all his honours by his second cousin once removed, Andrew Clyde Stewart [born 13 March, 1949], son of Maj Alexander David Stewart, MBE [1914-85], by his wife the former Daphne Marion Bonsor, daughter of Sir Reginald Bonsor, 2nd Bt.
The new peer married 5 March, 1977 [div], Sara Pollock [now Sara Agnew], by whom he has issue, a son, Alexander Patrick Stewart [born 18 Nov, 1980], who now assumes the courtesy title Lord Garlies, and 2 daughters, Tania and Zoe. She was born 29 January, 1933, daughter of Major Sir Alexander Penrose Gordon-Cumming, 5th Baronet [1893-1939], by his wife the former Elizabeth Topham Richardson [died 1985]. Her mother was later Countess Cawdor, wife of the 5th Earl, the Thane of Cawdor.
Philippa's sister, Cecily [1925-2012], was the wife successively of three peers, the 2nd Earl of Woolton, the 3rd Baron Forres, and the 3rd Earl Lloyd George of Dwyfor.
She married 10 June, 1955, David Archibald Innes [born 1931], son of Lieutenant-Col James Archibald Innes [1875-1948], by his 3rd wife, the former Evelyn Adelaide Dawnay, a great-granddaughter of the 7th Viscount Downe [1812-57], by whom she had issue, two sons Guy and John, and a daughter, Davina.

The Baron Garel-Jones, PC 1941-2020
[William Armand Thomas] Tristan Garel-Jones was born 28 February, 1941, son of Bernard Garel-Jones and his wife Meriel.
He was elected Conservative MP for Watford at the General Election, May, 1979. In the Whips office during the Thatcher administration he was Vice-Chamberlain of the Household, 1986-88, Comptroller of the Household, 1988-89, and Treasurer of the Household, 1989-90, and in John Major's administration he was Minister for Europe, 1990-93.
On leaving the House of Commons in 1997 he was created a life peer taking the title Baron Garel-Jones, of Watford in the County of Hertfordshire.
Lord Garel-Jones married in 1966, Catalina Garrigues, daughter of Mariano Garrigues, by whom he had four sons and a daughter.
Lady Garel-Jones's sister, Pilar Garrigues y Carcer, married in 1977, Lochain Alexander Spearman, scion of the Spearman baronets, and their son [Alexander] James Spearman [b 1984], married 16 Aug, 2014, Princess Amelia of Orleans-Braganza [b 1984].

Richard Hoare was a member of the board of C. Hoare & Co, the UK's oldest bank, standing down in 2017.
In 1983 he founded the Bulldog Trust to provide support and advice for charities facing immediate financial difficulties, and was awarded the OBE in 2006.

Green, RN; married secondly, 2004, Julie Katherine Ryan.
He is survived by a son, Piers, from his first marriage. He was predeceased by a daughter from the first marriage.

Alexander Ivan Bedini Guthrie of Guthrie, 22nd of That Ilk 1967-2020
Conscious of his distinguished forebears, Alexander Guthrie took his role as clan chief seriously, assiduously attending clan Guthrie gatherings as far afield as America. He was wont to turn up at formal occasions in Rome, where he lived, clad in full clan regalia. On more than one occasion he had to explain to the local carabinieri why it was that he was carrying a large sword.
He was born 3 October, 1967, the son of Conte Leonardo Bedini-Jacobini, by his wife the former Loetitia Dawn Phillips [b 26 Feb, 1945- d 1978]. His mother was a daughter of Capt Mark Henry Philips [1922-2014], late the Coldstream Guards, head of that landed family, of Gretton House, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, by his 1st wife Moyra Irene Guthrie of Guthrie, 21st of that Ilk [1922-84], daughter of Colonel Ivan Douglas Guthrie, MC, of Guthrie Castle, Angus.
Alexander inherited the chieftainship from his grandmother, who died 3 June, 1984.
Educated in Italy and England, he attended UCL and lived between Italy and the UK. He leaves a partner, Tal, and a younger brother, Christian.

He was Chairman, John Harrison [Stockton] Ltd.
He was born 25 May, 1938, a younger son of Sir John Fowler Harrison, 2nd Baronet [1899-1947], by his wife the former Kathleen Livingston [died 1993], and succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his elder brother, Sir John Wyndham Harrison [1933-1955].
He married 27 July, 1963, Maureen Marie Chiverton, daughter of Ernest Leonard Chiverton, JP, of Garth Corner, Kirbymoorside, North Yorkshire, by whom he had issue, a son John, and two daughters, Rachel and Claire.
The baronetcy now passes to his only son, John Wyndham Fowler Harrison, who was born 14 December, 1972.

Thomas Edward Graham was born 26 March, 1925. He was the Labour MP for Edmonton, Feb 1974-83, was PPS at the Department of Prices and Consumer Protection 1974-76; then a Government Whip, 1976-79 [Lord Commissioner of the Treasury]; Opposition Spokesman on the Environment, 1980-83. He lost his seat in the Commons in 1983, and that year was ennobled as Baron Graham of Edmonton, of Edmonton in Greater London. He was Labour Chief Whip in the House of Lords, 1990-97, and was sworn of the Privy Council, 1998.
