The Baron Swire

 The life peerage recently conferred upon Sir Hugo Swire, KCMG, PC, has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Swire, of Down Saint Mary, in the County of Devon.

Swire (born 30 Nov, 1959), is a politician. He served as the Conservative MP for East Devon from 2001 until 2019. He has had several ministerial roles, most recently as Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, a role he held until July 2016. Swire is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council. He retired from the House of Commons at the 2019 general election. Since 2022 he has been a member of the House of Lords.

He is a son of Humphrey Roger Swire (1934-2004), and his 1st wife the former Philippa Sophia Montgomerie of Southannan (born 1935) (she married 2ndly in 2004, as his 3rd wife, the 7th Marquess Townshend (1916-2010).

Hugo Swire married in 1966, Alexandra Mina Petruska Nott (born 1963), daughter of Sir John William Frederic Nott, KCB (born 1 Feb, 1932), former Conservative MP and government minister in the Thatcher administration, by his wife the former Miloska Sekol, by whom he has issue, two daughters, Saffron and Siena.
