_.Caroline Susan Sturt, who died 29 March, 2021, aged 80, was a scion of Sturt landed gentry family, of Winterdyne, Bewdley, co Worcester.
She was born in 1941, daughter of Evelyn Lenox Napier Sturt [1917-45], by his wife the former Hon Penelope Ann Mills [1917-1992], scion of the Barons Hillingdon, daughter of the 3rd Baron Hillingdon [1891-1952], and his wife the former Hon Edith Mary Winifred Cadogan [1895-1969], scion of the Earls Cadogan.
She had younger siblings, Pamela Sturt [born 1942], and a brother, Gerard.
Caroline Sturt was a granddaughter of Geoffrey Charles Napier Sturt [1884-1952], by his wife the former Edith Frances Wood, a great-granddaughter of Col. Napier George Sturt [1836-1901], by his wife the former Beatrix Marion Muirhead, and a great-great-granddaughter of Capt Charles Sturt, KCMG [1795-1869], who was a British officer and explorer of Australia, and part of the European exploration of Australia. He led several expeditions into the interior of the continent, starting from Sydney and later from Adelaide. His expeditions traced several of the westward-flowing rivers, establishing that they all merged into the Murray River, which flows into the Southern Ocean. He was searching to prove his own passionately held belief that an "inland sea" was located at the centre of the continent.
Caroline's Sturt ancestors were forebears of the Barons Alington.
