_. The Hon Rosemary Goolden [nee Lowther], who died 24 January, 2021, aged 98, was a scion of the Viscounts Ullswater.
She was born 25 February, 1922, as Rosemary Lowther, daughter of Major the Hon Christopher William Lowther [1887-1935], and his second wife the former Dorothy Bromey Davenport [1899-1969], scion of that landed gentry family.
Her grandfather, James Lowther [1855-1949], was Speaker of the House of Commons 1902-21, and created Viscount Ullswater in 1921. His elder son, Rosemary's father, pre-deceased him, and on his death the peerage passed to a grandson.
Rosemary Lowther was raised to the rank of a Viscount's daughter in October, 1950. She married 7 July, 1945, Douglas Cyril Aubrey Goolden [1914-2001], son of Commander Cyril Goolden [1882-1943], and his wife the former Eustine Turner [1883-1966], by whom she had issue, two sons, Michael and Alastair, and a daughter, Jill.
