_. Colin Shane Anson, who died at Diss, Norfolk, 26 October, 2019, aged 88, was a scion of the Earls of Lichfield, a descendant of the 2nd Earl.

He was born 29 July, 1931, second son of Anthony John Anson [1904-1981], by his wife the former Rosalind Desiree Arbuthnot [1906-1985], scion of the Arbuthnot baronets; unmarried. He was a partner of Ahmet _____.

The cremation takes place at West Suffolk Crematorium, 12 November, 2019.

April Sebag-Montefiore [nee Jaffé] 1927-2019

_. Phyllis April Sebag-Montefiore [nee Jaffé ], actress and novelist, died 28 October, 2019, aged 92.

She was born in 1927, of Russian/Lithuanian descent, the daughter of Dr Henry Norman Jaffe [1898-1969], by his wife the former Miriam Woolf [1896-1993]; married 1952, Dr Stephen Eric Sebag-Montefiore [1926-2014], socion of that landed family, son of Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Cecil Sebag-Montefiore [1899-1991], by his wife the former Audrey Mabel Rose Haldin [1899-1984], a granddaughter maternally of Sir Herbert Leon, 1st Baronet [1850-1926]. Mrs Sebag-Montefiore leaves four sons, including the writer Simon Sebag-Montefiore [born 1965], who married Santa Palmer-Tomkinson [born 1970], scion of that landed family.

Frank Thomas Robertson Giles 1919-2019

_. Frank Giles, journalist, former editor of the Sunday Times, died 30 October, 2019. He was 100.

He was born 31 July, 1919, son of Colonel Frank Lucas Netlam Giles, DSO, OBE [1879-1930], by his wife the former Elgiva Mary Ackland-Allen [1890-1970]; married 1946, the Lady Katharine Pamela [Kitty] Sackville [1926-2010], scion of the Earls De La Warr, a daughter of the 9th Earl De La Warr [1900-76], by his first wife the former Diana Helena Leigh [1896-1966], by whom he had a son, Sebastian, and two daughters, Belinda and the late Sarah [former wife of Rodolphe d'Erlanger].

The funeral takes place at St Michael’s and All Angels, Withyham, East Sussex, 15 November 2019.


Sir George Tapps Gervis Meyrick, 7th Baronet 1941-2019

_. Sir George Christopher Cadafael Tapps Gervis Meyrick, 7th Baronet, wealthy landowner, died 24 October, 2019.

He was born 10 March, 1941 the son of Sir George David Eliott Tapps Gervis Meyrick 6th Baronet [1915-1988], by his wife the former Ann Elizabeth Miller [1919-2007]; succeeded to the family baronetcy and the Hinton Admiral estate, near Christchurch, Hampshire, on his father's demise, 1988; married 1968, Jean Louise Montagu Douglas Scott [born 1943], scion of the Dukes of Buccleuch & Queensberry, and niece of HRH Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester [1901-2004]; by whom he had 2 sons and one daughter. The son, George William Owen Tapps Gervis Meyrick [born 1970], who married the novelist Candida Clark, succeeds to the title.

A Service of Thanksgiving takes place at Christchurch Priory, Dorset, 14 November, 2019.

Gabriella Zanna Vanessa  Pownall, nee Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe is a daughter of John Austen Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe (b 14 Jul, 1947), by his 2nd wife, the former Vanessa Mary Theresa Hubbard (descended from the Dukes of Norfolk, &c), and is known as Gabriella Wilde, model turned actress &c. Her father's 1st wife, Lady Mary Gaye Curzon, is mother of the Duke of Sussex's former girlfriend Cressida Bonas.

 _. The life peerage awarded to Harold Carter has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Carter of Haslemere, of Haslemere in the County of Surrey, 30 Oct, 2019.

Harold Mark Carter, Baron Carter of Haslemere, CB is a British lawyer, life peer and crossbench member of the House of Lords.

Lord Carter of Haslemere has served as general counsel of the 10 Downing Street and is a bencher at Gray's Inn. He was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in the 2015 New Year Honours for services to Government Legal Services and services to community in Guildford, Surrey. In 2019, he was nominated for a life peerage in the Prime Minister's Resignation Honours.

Rosemary, Lady Forbes 1921-2019

_. Rosemary, Lady Forbes, who died 26 October, 2019, aged 98, was the widow of Major the 22nd Lord Forbes, KBE [1918-2013].

She was born the Hon Rosemary Katherine Hamilton-Russell, 1 April, 1921, daughter of the 9th Viscount Boyne [1864-1942], by his wife the former Lady Margaret Selina Lascelles [1883-1978], daughter of the 5th Earl of Harewood [1846-1929]. Her mother was a sister-in-law of HRH The Princess Mary, Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood [1897-1965].

 She married 23 May, 1942, Major the 22nd Lord Forbes, by whom she had issue, by whom she had issue, two sons and a daughter.

She was widowed, 5 March, 2013. Her elder son succeeded to the peerage.

Courtier Sir Malcolm Ross joined the Royal Household in 1987, and was Comptroller of the Lord Chamberlain's Office 1991-2005; Extra Equerry to Her Majesty the Queen from 1988; Master of the Household to the Prince of Wales, 2006-08, &c.

Sir Malcolm was Lord Lieutenant of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, 2006-2018.

In 2016 he was appointed the Lord Prior of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem.

Appointed OBE, 1988; CVO, 1994; KCVO, 1999; GCVO, 2005.

He was born 27 Oct, 1943, son of Colonel Walter John Macdonald Ross [died 1982], by his wife the former Josephine May Cross [died 1982]. His sister Susan is the Countess of Annandale & Hartfell, wife of the 11th Earl; he married Susan Jane Gow [born 1949], daughter of General Sir Michael Gow, GCB, DL [1924-2013], by his wife the former Jane Emily Scott [born 1925], scion of the Scott baronets of Beauclerc; by whom he had issue, a son, Hector [born 1983], and two daughters, Tabitha [born 1970], and Flora [born 1974].
