Tewa Lascelles is a grandson of the late 7th Earl of Harewood, KBE (1923-2011), and a great-grandson of HRH The Princess Mary, Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood (1897-1965), only daughter of HM King George V, &c.

Her Highness Princess Ragnhild, Mrs Lorentzen (1930-2012)

_.Her Highness Princess Ragnhild, Mrs Lorentzen, who died at her home in Rio de Janeiro, 16 September, 2012, was a daughter of Olav V, King of Norway, and a sister of King Harald.

She was born Princess Ragnhild Alexandra of Norway, at Oslo, 9 June 1930, the first child of the then Crown Prince Olav and his wife Princess Martha of Sweden. The Princess was a great-grandaughter of Britain's King Edward VII, and a great-great granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

She married 15 May, 1953, Erling Sven Lorentzen (b Oslo, 28 Jan, 1923), and had three children. She is survived by her husband.

The Norwegian royal family attended the princess's funeral in the chapel of the Royal Palace, Oslo, 28 Sept, 2012.

He married in 1973, Jane Brydon, by whom he had issue. He leaves a widow and a son, David Charles (b 1976), and a daughter, Catherine Frances (b 1978).

Sir John Christopher Smith-Dodsworth, 8th Baronet 1935-2012

_.Sir John Christopher Smith-Dodsworth, 8th Baronet (Baronetcy GB, cr 1784), formerly of Thornton Watlass Hall, Ripon, and Coromandel, New Zealand, died 21 September, 2012, aged 77.

He was born 4 March, 1935, son of Sir Claude Matthew Smith-Dodsworth (1888-1940), by his wife the former Cyrilla Marie Louise Taylor.

He was educated at Ampleforth; succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 18 May, 1940; was thrice married, firstly, in 1961 (div 1971), to Margaret Anne Jones; 2ndly, in 1972, to Margaret Theresa Grey, who died in 1990, and thirdly in 1991, to Lolita Pulante.

Sir John leaves a son and a daughter from his first marriage, a son from the second, and a son and a daughter from the third. The baronetcy devolves upon his eldest son, David John Smith-Dodsworth, who was born 23 Oct, 1963.

She was born Lady Elizabeth Diana Montagu Douglas Scott, 20 January, 1922, the elder daughter of the 8th Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry, KT, GCVO (1894-1973), by his wife the former Vreda Esther Mary (Molly) Lascelles (1900-93), scion of the Earls of Harewood; and married 12 June, 1946, Hugh Algernon Percy, 10th Duke of Northumberland, of Alnwick Castle, Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland 1956-88, Lord Steward of the Household, 1973-88, KG (1959), who died 11 Oct, 1988. The duchess was the mother of three sons and four daughters, and was predeceased by one son, the 11th Duke (1953-95), and by one daughter, Lady Louise Percy, who died in infancy in 1962. She is survived by 2 sons, the 12th Duke and Lord James Percy, and by 3 daughters, Caroline Countess de Cabarrus, Lady Victoria Fellowes, and Lady Julia Craig Harvey.

He was a son of John Houison Craufurd of Craufurdland and Braehead by his wife the former Irene Marlow; he married in 1965, the Hon Caroline Helene Berry (b 1942), third daughter of the newspaper proprietor, the 2nd Viscount Kemsley (1909-99), by whom he had issue, 2 sons, (John) Alexander(b 1966) and Simon Douglas (b 1972), and one daughter, Teresa Eleanor (b 1967). The elder son, Alexander, succeeds as head of the family. He is married with 2 daughters.

_Nicole Duchess of Bedford, sometime chatelaine of Woburn Abbey, the third wife and widow of the 13th Duke of Bedford, died in Monaco, 7 September, 2012. She was 92.

She was born Nicole Marie Charlotte Pierrette Jeanne Schneider, at Paris, 29 June, 1920, daughter of Paul Scneider by his wife Marguerite Durand; married firstly, circa 1938, Henri Milinaire, by whom she had four children; married 2ndly, 1960, as his third wife, the 13th Duke of Bedford (1917-2002), of Woburn Abbey. Her husband died at Santa Fe, New Mexico, 25 Oct, 2002. She is survived by 2 sons and 1 daughter.

The (4th) Baron Trevethin & (2nd) Baron Oaksey, OBE (1929-2012)

_.John Geoffrey Tristram Lawrence, 4th Baron Trevethin (Peerage of the UK, cr 1921) & 2nd Baron Oaksey (Peerage of the UK, cr 1947), died 5 September, 2012, aged 83.

'John Oaksey', jockey, journalist, broadcaster and author was founded of the Injured Jockeys Fund.

He was born 21 March, 1929, son of Geoffrey Lawrence, judge, Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, who was created the 1st Baron Oaksey in 1947 and who succeeded as 3rd Baron Trevethin on the death of his elder brother in 1959. John succeeded to both baronies on his father's demise, 28 Aug, 1971.

He was twice married, firstly in 1959 (divorced 1987), Victoria Mary Dennistoun; and secondly, in 1988, to Mrs Rachel Crocker (nee Hunter).

The peerages now devolve upon his son from his first marriage, the Hon Patrick John Tristram Lawrence, who was b 29 June, 1960.

The Earl of Stair is a great-nephew of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. His grandfather was HM's yr brother, Sir David Bowes Lyon. The family honours devolve upon his eldest son, the Hon Michael Peter Evans-Freke, who was born 11 Oct, 1942.

Angharad Rees (1949-2012)

_The actress Angharad Rees, who has died from pancreatic cancer, aged 63, was the wife of David McAlpine, scion of that family of Baronets, and was  former wife of Christopher de Lerisson Cazenove (1943-2012), actor, scion of that landed family.

She was born 16 July, 1949, and married Cazenove in 1973. They divorced in 1994 having had two sons, Linford and Rhys. She married David McAlpine in 2005. She is survived by her husband and younger son Rhys (b 1976). The elder son, Linford (b 1974), died as the result of an accident in 1999.

_The Duchess of Hamilton & Brandon (b 1976), wife of Alexander Douglas Douglas-Hamilton, 16th Duke of Hamilton (b 31 Mar 1978), gave birth to a son and heir Douglas Charles Douglas-Hamilton, styled Marquess of Douglas & Clydesdale, born 9 July, 2012.

The Duke of Hamilton & Brandon is the elder son of Angus Alan Douglas [Douglas-Hamilton], 15th Duke of Hamilton (b 13 September 1938, d 5 Jun 2010), by his late former wife Sarah Jane Scott (b. 28 Oct 1945; d. 17 Feb 1994), eldest dau. of Sir Walter Scott, 4th Bt., of Beauclerc, Bywell St Andrews, co. Northumberland.

The Duchess of Hamilton is the former Sophie Ann Rutherford, dau of Mr Hubert Rutherford (b 1940), of Roxburghshire and Mrs Isabel Rutherford, of Edinburgh.

_Sir Henry Saxon Tate, CBE, 5th Baronet (cr UK, 1898), died in Portugal, 11 July, 2012. He was 80. Businessman Sir Henry was a director of the family firm, Tate & Lyle, for over 40 years. Born 28 Nov 1931, he succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death in 1994. He was twice wed and is succeeded in the title by his son, Edward Nicholas Tate, born 2 July, 1966.

Lt-Gen. Sir David George House, GCB, KCVO, CBE, MC (1922-2012)

Lt-Gen Sir David George House, GCB, KCVO, CBE, MC, died 14 July, 2012. Sir David served as Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, House of Lords 1978-85; was Serjeant-at-Arms, House of Lords, and Secretary to the Lord Great Chamberlain, 1978-85. During his long military career he was GOC, Northern Ireland, 1975-77, and Colonel Commandant of The Light Division.

He was b 8 Aug 1922, son of A.G. House, and married in 1947, Sheila Betty Darwin, by whom he had issue, 2 daughters, Jennifer & Elizabeth.

The funeral takes place at St Andrew's Church, Aldborough, Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, 26 July, 2012.

16th Viscount of Arbuthnott, KT, CBE, DSC (1924-2012)

_The Viscount of Arbuthnott, who has died aged 87, was the 16th Viscount (cr 1641), and the 16th Lord Inverbervie (also cr 1641) both in the Peerage of Scotland, and was Chief of the Name & Arms of Arbuthnott.

Lord Arbuthnott served as Lord Lieutenant of the Grampian Region (Kincardineshire) 1977-99, and was appointed a Knight of the Order of the Thistle in 1996.

John Campbell Arbuthnott was b 26 Oct, 1924, son of the 15th viscount by his wife the former Ursula Collingwood (d 20 Dec 1989), and succeeded to the peerages on his father's demise, 15 Dec, 1966.

He married in 1949, Elizabeth Mary Darley Oxley, who d.16 January, 2010, by whom he had issue. His son, the Hon John Keith Oxley Arbuthnott, Master of Arbuthnott, who was b 18 Jul 1950, succeeds to the peerages.

Rupert Forbes Adam (1957-2012)

_Rupert Forbes Adam, who died suddenly, 6 July, 2012, at the age of 54, was a scion of the Adam Baronets (cr UK, 1917). He was a grandson maternally of Sir Oswald Mosley, 6th Baronet, and was a grandson paternally of Colin Forbes Adam, CSI (1889-1982) sometime chairman of the Yorkshire Post.

He was born 11 Aug 1957, son of Desmond Forbes Adam (1926-58) by his wife Vivien Elisabeth Mosley. His father died as the result of an accident a year after his birth.

He married in 1981, Mrs Anya Hillman (nee Butler),. No issue. He is survived by two sisters, Cynthia and Arabella.

Death of Count Arthur Tarnowski aged 82

_Count Arthur John Tarnowski, who died 30 June, 2012, aged 82, was a former husband of the Hon Bridget Astor, scion of the Barons Astor of Hever (Peerage of the UK, cr 1956), sometime son-in-law of the 2nd Baron Astor of Hever.

He married the Hon Bridget Mary Astor (b 1948) in 1980 and divorced six years later. He leaves two sons, Sebastian (b 1981) and Lucian (b 1984) from the marriage.

Rosamond Countess of Cardigan dies aged 63

Rosamond Jane Countess of Cardigan, who died 4 July, 2012, at the age of 63, was the former wife of David Michael James Brudenell-Bruce, styled Earl of Cardigan (b 12 Nov 1952), son and heir of the 8th Marquess of Ailesbury (Peerage of the UK, cr 1821).

She was born Rosamond Jane Winkley, dau of Capt W.R.M. Winkley, of Bruton, Somerset, and married Lord Cardigan in 1980. They divorced in 2009.

She is survived by a son, Thomas James, styled Viscount Savernake (b 1982), and by a daughter Lady Catherine Anna Brudenell-Bruce (b 1984) a singer and songwriter,who found fame recently as 'Bo Bruce' on the reality TV programme 'The Voice'.

Count Robert Jean-Marie de La Rochefoucauld, born Paris, 16 Sept, 1923, died 8 May, 2012. He married Bernadette (née de Marcieu de Gontaut-Biron). She survives him, with three daughters. Their son Jean inherits the title.

_Sir Valentine Robert Duff Abdy, 6th Baronet died 27 June 2012. He was born 11 September, 1937, son of Sir Robert Henry Edward Abdy, 5th Bt (1896-1976), by his 2nd wife, the former Lady (Helen) Diana Bridgeman (d 1967), daughter of the 5th Earl of Bradford; married 1971 (div 1982) Mathilde, dau of Etienne Coche de la Ferte, by whom he had a son, Robert Etienne Eric, born 22 Feb 1978, who now succeeds as 7th Baronet (cr Baronet UK, 1850).

_Pamela Syvla Winn, who died 29 June, 2012, aged 79, was the widow of Maj Henry John Winn, MC, TD (1914-91), a scion of the Barons St Oswald (Peerage of the UK, cr 1885), of Nostell Priory, West Yorkshire.

She was the former Pamela Sylva de Rougemont, daughter of Ernest Charles de Rougemont, CBE, and married in 1960. She leaves a son and a daughter.

14th Earl of Loudoun (1942-2012)

_The 14th Earl of Loudoun (Peerage of Scotland, cr 1633), died 30 June, 2012, at Jerilderie, New South Wales, Australia. He was 69.

He was born Michael Edward Lord (surname later changed to Abney-Hastings), 22 July, 1942, the son of Capt Walter Strickland Lord by his wife the then Lady Barbara Huddleston Abney-Hastings, elldest daughter of Edith, suo jure (12th) Countess of Loudoun (1883-1960).

His mother succeeded, 24 Feb 1960, as 13th holder of the earldom, and to the Lordships of Campbell of Loudoun (Peerage of Scotland, cr 1601), and Tarrinzean and Mauchline (Peerage of Scotland cr 1633), and he was styled Lord Mauchline until he succeeded to the family honours on the death of his mother, 1 Nov, 2002.

He married in 1969, Noeline Margaret McCormick, by whom he had issue, two sons and two daughters. The peerages now devolve upon his elder son, Simon Michael Abney-Hastings, styled Lord Mauchline, who was born in 1974.

She was the former Joan Shirley Blackman, daughter of Rear Admiral Charles Maurice Blackman, DSO, and married firstly, Maj Jocelyn Arthur Persse, Rifle Brigade (of that Irish landed family), and secondly, in 1948, Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Edgar of Fulford (b 23 July 1898), of Great Fulford, and head of that landed family; and thirdly, in 1979, as his second wife, and her third husband, Sir John Carew Pole, Bt, who died in 1993.
