Sir Laurence Edward Anthony Tress Barry, 5th Baronet, died 27 August, 2026. He was 86.
Sir Laurence, a Capt, Grenadier Guards, resided at St Leonard's Hill, Clewer, Berkshire, and Keiss Castle, Caithness, was the fifth holder of the baronetcy.
His ancestor Francis Barry, made a fortune from business interests in Portugal, including the Sao Domingos Mine in the Alentejo. He was created Baron de Barry by King Luís I of Portugal in 1876.
He was born 1 November, 1939, son of Maj Sir Rupert Barry, 4th Baronet (1910-1977), and 4° Barão de Barry [in Portugal], and his 1st wife the former Diana Madeline Thompson (d 22 Sept, 1948); and succeeded to the title on his father's death, 9 March, 1977.
He was twice wed, firstly, 14 September, 1968 (div. 1991) Fenella Hoult, and married 2ndly, in 1992, [Elizabeth] Jill Bradley. He is survived by Jill, and a son and a daughter from his first marriage, William Rupert Philip Tress Barry (born 13 Dec, 1973), who now succeeds to the baronetcy, and Alexandra Diana Frances Louise Barry (born 1977).
