John Frederick Lewis, who died 5 March, 2026, aged 87, was a scion of the Barons Merthyr.
He was born 30 December, 1938, the third son of the 3rd Baron Merthyr (1901-1977), and his wife the former Violet Meyrick (died 2 February, 2003), daughter of Brigadier-General Sir Frederick Charlton Meyrick, 2nd Baronet (1862-1932); and married 23 July, 1966, Margaret Dilys Rachel Lewis-Bowen, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel James William Lewis-Bowen, of Dyfed, by whom he had issue, a son, Paul (born 1979), and three daughters, Deborah (born 1967), Sarah (born 1968), and Hannah (born 1983).
