_. Professor Horace Basil Barlow, FRS, a neuroscientist who did ground breaking work on visual perception, died 5 July, 2020, aged 98.
He was born 8 Dec, 1921, a son of Sir James Alan Noel Barlow, 2nd Baronet, GCB, KBE [1881-1968], by his wife the former Emma Nora Darwin [1885-1989], scion of the Darwin landed gentry family, and descended from Charles Darwin. He married firstly, 22 Dec, 1954 [divorced 1970], Ruth Chattie Salaman [born 1935], daughter of Myer Head Salaman [1902-95], by whom he had four daughters; married 2ndly, 1980, Elisabeth Miranda Weston-Smith, daughter of [John] Weston-Smith, by whom he had a son, and two daughters.
