Sir James Arthur Cayzer, 5th Baronet

Sir James Arthur Cayzer, 5th Baronet, scion of a great British shipping family, died at Kinpurnie Castle, Angus, 27 February, 2012. He was 80. He was born 15 Nov, 1931, second son of Sir Charles William Cayzer, 3rd Baronet (1896-1940) by his wife the former Beatrice Eileen Meakin; succeeded to the baronetcy (cr UK, 1904), on the death of his elder brother, Sir Nigel, the 4th Baronet, who was killed in action at Salerno, 11 Sept, 1943. The 5th Baronet was unmarried and the baronetcy now devolves upon his kinsman, the 3rd Baron Rotherwick.

Cyril Dickman: Steward to the Royal Household, dies

Cyril Dickman, a favourite royal servant, who served the Royal Family for more than 50 years, has died. Lambeth-born Mr Dickman, former Palace Steward died last week aged 85.

Mr Dickman's funeral was held at the Chapel Royal St James's Palace, 27 February, 2012, and the Royal Family were well represented. The Queen and Prince Philip were represented by the Hon Mary Morrison, the Queen's lady in waiting; Wing Commander Richard Pattle represented the Prince of Wales; former royal nanny Mabel Anderson represented the Duke of York, and Lt-Col Sean O'Dwyer represented the Earl of Wessex. The Princess Royal was represented by Rowena Feilden, her lady in waiting. The Duke of Kent was represented by Capt Charles Pearson, and Princess Alexandra by stalwart royal retainer Lady Susan Hussey.

Annabel Celia Dorothy Sykes (née Bosville Macdonald) 1953-2012

Annabel Celia Dorothy Sykes (née Bosville Macdonald)..— who has died suddenly, aged 58, was the wife of Jeremy John Sykes (b 1946), brother & heir pres to Sir Tatton Sykes, Bt, of Sledmere, and was a scion of the Bosville Macdonald Baronets. She b 1953, dau of Sir (Alexander) Somerled Angus Bosville Macdonald of Sleat, 17th Baronet (who d 1958); married 1stly, 1987, Clive Duncan Evans, by whom she had a son and a daughter; married 2ndly, Jeremy John Sykes (b 1946), yr brother & heir pres to Sir Tatton Christopher Mark Sykes, 8th Baronet, of Sledmere. 


Funeral Service for family and friends at All Saints Church, Rudston, on Thursday, 1 March 2012.

Hon Peregrine John Wishart Fairfax

The Hon. Peregrine John Wishart Fairfax, a son of the 12th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, died 23rd February, 2012. He was 86. Mr Fairfax was born 8 March, 1925. His father, Albert Kirby Fairfax (1870-1939) succeeded his father in 1900 as 12th holder of the peerage (cr Scotland, 1627).

Peregrine's mother was thre former Maude Wishart McKelvie, who d. 4 Oct, 1973.

He married 1965, Virginia Alexandra de L'Etang Kindersley, scion of the Barons Kindersley, by whom he had issue, a son, Thomas, b 1966, and a daughter, Doune, b 1968.

Mr Fairfax was best man at the wedding of Princess Alexandra of Kent and the Hon Angus Ogilvy at Westminster Abbey in April, 1963. He served as High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1971.

The funeral takes place at Berwick-upon-Tweed, 21 Mar, 2012.

Martha Sarah Logan

Belinda Clayre Logan (nee Greenwell, b 1977), scion of the Greenwell Baronets, and wife of James Logan, gave birth to a daughter, Martha Sarah, 16 February, 2012, a sister for Theo. James is the younger son of David and Judith Logan, of Kemerton, Gloucestershire, and Belinda is the eldest daughter of Sir Edward Bernard Greenwell, 4th Baronet (b. 10 June, 1948), of Gedgrave Hall, Woodbridge, Suffolk, by his wife the former Sarah Louise Gore-Anley.

Baron Corbett of Castle Vale (1933-2012)

The Baron Corbett of Castle Vale (Life Peer, cr 2001) died 19 February, 2012. He was 78. As Robin Corbett MP he sponsored a ground-breaking Private Members Bill in the Commons in 1976 which provided anonymity to the victims of rape. Robin Corbett was born 22 Dec, 1933, & was twice married. A daughter, Polly Hudson, is a columnist on the Daily Mirror.

Maj John Christopher Beck, OBE, died 14 February, 2012, aged 86. He was the son of Rev Preb Henry Wolferstan BECK AKC (1896-1972) of Sherborne, Dorset. He married in 1950, Cynthia Mary Flower Roche-Kelly (1917-?), scion of that Irish gentry family of co Clare, and of the Barons Fermoy, and was kin of HRH The Duke of Cambridge, &c.

The QUEEN has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 6 February 2012 to appoint The Right Honourable Robert John Reed (commonly called Lord Reed) to be a Justice of the Supreme 
Court of the United Kingdom. 

Robert John REED (b 1956) is the son of George Reed. He m 1988, Jane Mylne and they have 2 daus. He was made a PC in 2008. He was appointed 1998 a Senator of the College of Justice in Scotland (a Lord of Session).

6th Baron Stratheden & Campbell (1934-2011)

The 6th Baron Stratheden & Campbell died 23 October, 2011. He was 77. Donald Campbell was born 4 April, 1934, son of the 5th Baron (1901-87) by his wife the former Evelyn Mary Austen Smith (d 1989); succeeded to the peerages (Stratheden, UK cr 1836 & Campbell, UK, cr 1841), on his father's demise, 29 Oct, 1987.

Lord Stratheden & Campbell married in 1957, Hilary Ann Holland Turner (d 1991), by whom he had issue, one son and three daughters. The son, David Anthony, born 13 Feb 1963, succeeds to the peerage.

The Baron Carr of Hadley, PC, who died 17 February, 2012, aged 95, was, as Robert Carr MP, Lord President of the Council and then Home Secretary in the Administration of Edward Heath.

Leonard Robert Carr was born 11 Nov, 1916. He was created a life peer in 1976.

Simon Mark Noel Ponsonby (1961-2012)

Simon Mark Noel Ponsonby, who died 14 February, 2012, aged 50, was distantly related to the Earls of Bessborough. He was born in 1961, the son of Commander Francis Ponsonby, LVO, OBE, RN (1932-2003) by his former wife the former Sally Cocup.

Simon's paternal grandfather was Gilbert Jocelyn Ponsonby (b 4 May 1904), who was a son of the Rev. Stewart Gordon Ponsonby (1856-1938), who married in 1889, Mary Catherine Buxton (1870-1960), dau of Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton, 3rd Baronet (1837-1915), by his wife the former Lady Victoria Noel, daughter of the 1st Earl of Gainsborough, &c.

The Ponsonby line here stems from John Ponsonby, a brother of William 1st Baron Bessborough.

Diana Dawn Birkbeck, who died at her home, 8 February, 2012, aged 78, was a scion of the Birkbecks of Westacre (see Burke's Landed Gentry). She was born 19 Apr, 1933, 3rd daughter of Christopher Robert Birkbeck, OBE, JP (b 1889) of Rippon Hall, Hevingham, Norfolk, by his wife Rosamund Alice Barclay, scion of that landed family (Barclay of Higham). She never married.

_The marriage took place in London, 15 February, 2012, between Garret Graham Wellesley, 7th Earl Cowley (b 30 July, 1934), son of the late 4th Earl Cowley (1890-1962), by his 2nd wife Mary, & Mrs Carola Marion Stormonth Darling (born 1943, nee Erskine-Hill).

Mrs Stormonth Darling, the peer's fourth spouse, is the widow of Capt Robin Andrew Stormonth Darling (1926-2009), of that landed family, & dau of Sir Robert Erskine-Hill, 2nd Baronet.

Guy Nevill is the son of David Michael Ralph Nevill (b 1941), of Birling, Kent, by his wife the former Katherine Mary Westenra, and Jemima is a daughter of Mr and Mrs Roland James, of Cobham, Surrey. Guy's father is heir pres to the Earldom & Barony of Abergavenny and the Viscountcy of Nevill.

Hersey Marsham (nee Coke), who died 12 February, 2012, aged 96, was mother of the 7th Earl of Romney and a scion of the Coke Earls of Leicester. She was born 20 March, 1915, daughter of Maj Richard Coke (1876-1964) by his 1st wife the Hon Doreen O'Brien (d 1960), dau of the 14th Baron Inchiquin; married 18 Jul 1946, Lt-Col Peter William Marsham, MBE (1913-70), scion of the Earls of Romney (cr Earl, UK, 1801).

Her son, Julian Marsham, succeeded his cousin as 7th Earl of Romney, 5 June, 2004.

The engagement was announced 15 Feb 2012, between James R.M. Lauder, son of Mr Ian Lauder and Mrs David Hope-Mason, and the Hon Rose Arabella Julia Willoughby (b 25 Sept 1984), youngest daughter of the 13th Baron Middleton (cr Baron, GB, 1711/12) and Baroness Middleton.
