Major Richard William Naesmyth, 16th of Posso 1938-2023

Major Richard William Naesmyth, 16th of Posso, head of that Scots landed gentry family, died 7 November, 2023, aged 84.

Maj Naesmyth of Posso, of Devizes, Wiltshire, served as an officer in the Royal Artillery, and was seconded to the Zambian army, 1965-67.

He was born 19 December, 1938, son of the Rev George Cresswell Naesmyth 15th of Posso (1895-1983), of The Parsonage, Southwick, Fareham, Hampshire, and his wife the former Christabel Sara Slatter (1902-1992); and succeeded his father as head of that Scottish clan, 1983; and married 1980, Xenia Angela Mary Henderson-Howat, daughter of the Very Rev Rudolph Henderson-Howat (1896-1957), and his wife the former Agatha Mary Dorothea Cooke (1905-1990), by whom he had issue, a son, Alexander, and a daughter, Charlotte. The son, Alexander Cresswell Benedict (born 3 Apr, 1983), succeeds as 17th of Posso.
