The life peerage warded to Mr Simon Murray has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Murray of Blidworth, of Blidworth in the County of Nottinghamshire.
Murray was recently appointed a Minister of State at the Home Office with a seat in the House of Lords as a life peer.
Simon Peregrine Gauvain Murray [born 2 August 1974] is a barrister. He was appointed Minister of State at the Home Office on 7 October 2022, and is to be appointed a life peer. Called to the English bar in 2000, Murray practised public law at 39 Essex Chambers. He was educated at the University of St Andrews. He is a Conservative member of Gedling Borough Council, representing Newstead Abbey ward.
He is a son of Nigel Ormiston Gauvain Murray [1944-2002], and his wife the former Shirley Arbuthnot [born 9 March, 1949, later Mrs Peter Rountree], scion of the Arbuthnot baronets. He married at the Temple Church, London, 4 Oct, 2007, Amelia May Beaumont [born 12 Nov, 1983], a granddaughter of the Baron Beaumont of Whitley, daughter of the Hon Hubert Wentworth Beaumont [born 13 Apr, 1956], and his wife, the former Katherine Emma Abel Smith [born 11 March, 1961], a descendant of Her Majesty Queen Victoria. The Murrays have a son and a daughter, twins.
