Kevin Billington 1934-2021

 Kevin Billington, who has died aged 87, was a film director who worked in film, theatre and TV from the 1960s.

He was born at Warrington, 12 June, 1934, son of Richard Billington and his wife the former Margaret Hennessey; and married 16 December, 1967, the Lady Rachel Mary Pakenham [born 11 Apr, 1942], third daughter of the 7th Earl of Longford, KG, PC [1905-2001], and his wife the former Elizabeth Harman, CBE [1906-2002], by whom he had issue, two sons, Nathaniel and Caspar, and two daughters, Catherine and Chloe.

His films include: A Sort of Paradise; Many Mexicos; The Mexican Attitude; Twilight of Empire; Mary McCarthy's Paris; These Humble Shores; Matador; A Few Castles in Spain; The English Cardinal; A Socialist Childhood; Madison Avenue, USA; All the Queen's Men; Interlude; The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer; The Light at the Edge of the World; &c.

Billington was chairman of BAFTA 1989-90, and 1990-91. He received the Screenwriters' Guild Award [1966 and 1967].
