Death of Kate Middleton's grandfather

_.Peter Francis Middleton, grandfather of Prince William's fiancée, Kate Middleton, died 2 November, 2010, aged 90. He was husband of the Valerie (Glassborow), father of four, grandfather of five, aviator, transatlantic sailor and long-time resident of Vernham Dean. Will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He was born 1948, son of Major John David Burn Callander, MC (1917-1988), 8th of Prestonhall, and his wife the former Mary Crompton-Roberts, scion of that landed gentry family, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Roger Crompton-Roberts, DSO; & married 1987, Jacqueline Hulder Crocker, by whom he had two sons, William, now 10th of Prestonhall, and Harry, and a daughter, Alice.

_Her Grace The Duchess of Wellington, wife of the 8th Duke, died 1 November, 2010.

She was born Diana Ruth McConnel in 1921, daughter of Maj Gen Douglas Fitzgerald McConnel, CB, CBE, DSO (1893-1961), of Knockdolian, by his wife the former Ruth Mary Garnett-Botfield, scion of that LG family; married 28 Jan 1944, the 8th Duke of Wellington, KG, (b 2 Jul 1915), by whom she has issue.

The bride is a half-sister of Sarah Duchess of York.

Samantha Gwendoline Cameron (b 1971, nee Sheffield), scion of the Sheffield Baronets, and wife of the Rt Hon David Cameron, PC, MP (b 1966), Prime Minister & 1st Lord of the Treasury, &c, gave birth to a fourth child and second daughter, Florence Rose Endellion, 24 Aug 2010, in Cornwall, a sister for Nancy and for Arthur and the late Ivan (2002-2009).

The infant descends from King William IV on her paternal side and from Charles II on her maternal side.

Mrs Cameron is the eldest daughter of Sir Reginald Adrian Berkeley Sheffield, 8th Baronet, and his first wife Annabel (now Viscountess Astor).

She was the dau of the 10th Duke of Devonshire (1895-1950) and the

1953–66) dau of 4th Marquess of SALISBURY. She m 1949 Michael Lambert
TREE (1921-99), of that gentry family formerly of Dytchley Park. They
adopted two daus: Isabella Elizabeth Nancy (b 1964) m 1993 Sir Charles
Raymond BURRELL 10th Bt (b 1962, son of Sir (John) Raymond BURRELL 9th
Bt (1934-2008) and Rowena Frances dau of Michael H PEARCE of
Brackenhills, Inyanga, Rhodesia) and has a son (the ha Edward Lambert
b 1996) and a dau; Esther Anne Mary (b 1966) m 1992 James Michael
Beale CAYZER-COLVIN (b 1965, grandson of the LP Baron CAYZER
(1910-99)) and has issue.


She was sister of the 10th Duke of Devonshire and aunt of the present,
12th Duke.

The 7th Viscount Bolingbroke & St John, died 5 July, 2010. He was 83.

 Kenneth Oliver Musgrave St John was born 22 March, 1927, son of Capt Henry Robert St John (1889-1972), and his wife the former Katharine Mary Musgrave (who died 22 April, 1958).

He succeeded his kinsman, 1 May, 1974, as the 11th Baronet St. John, of Lidiard Tregoze, co. Wilts [E., 1611], and as the 7th Baron St. John of Lydiard Tregoze, co. Wilts [G.B., 1712], & as the 7th Viscount Bolingbroke, co. Lincoln [G.B., 1712], and as the 8th Viscount St. John, of Battersea, co. Surrey [G.B., 1716]. 

He married firstly, in 1953 (div 1972), Patricia Mary McKenna, daughter of B.J. McKenna, of Christchurch, New Zealand; married 2ndly, 22 December, 1972 (div 1987), Jainey Anne McRae, daughter of Alexander Duncan McRae, of Timaru, New Zealand, 

From his first marriage he leaves a son and heir, the Hon Henry FitzRoy St John (born 18 May, 1957), who now succeeds to the family honours, and two sons from his second marriage, the Hon Oliver (born 1972), and the Hon Nicholas St John (born 1974).
