Ralph Ashton Whistler, who died 29 April, 2023, aged 92, was a grandson maternally of the 1st Baron Ashton of Hyde, and was a leading authority on the Dodo.
He was born 9 August, 1930, son of Hugh Whistler (who died in 1943), and his wife the Hon Margaret Joan Ashton (1893-1981), second daughter of the 1st Baron Ashton of Hyde (1855-1933), and his wife the former Eva Margaret James (1855-1938); & married 25 Feb, 1953, Jane McCarthy, daughter of Ivan Agar McCarthy, by whom he had issue, three sons, Brian, Nicholas and John, and two daughters, Clare and Lucy.
