A descendant of the Royal House of Windsor has announced her engagement on her Instagram account.
It is something of a first in that it will be the first same-sex marital alliance for a descendant of King George V and Queen Mary.
Ellen Mary Lascelles (born 17 December, 1984), is the elder daughter of the Hon Jeremy Lascelles, and is a granddaughter of the late 7th Earl of Harewood (1923-2011), who was George V's eldest grandchild.
Ellen is a great-granddaughter of Princess Mary, Princess Royal, Countess of Harewood (1897-1965).
On her Instagram account Ellen announced: "On New Year's Day Chan asked me to marry her, and turned what was an incredible 2022, turned into an even more incredible 2023. Two proposals in one day ... plus a cat ring to seal the deal until we get a real engagement ring made. One week later and I'm still floating on a love cloud."
Ellen's bride-to-be is Chantelle McPherson.
Ms Lascelles, who is in line of succession to the throne, and lives in Australia, has two children from a previous relationship with Michael G. Hermans, a son, Jack Marley Hermans (born 21 March, 2016), and a daughter, Penny Moon Hermans (born 1 March, 2018).
In 2018 Ellen's fourth cousin, Lord Ivar Alexander Michael Mountbatten (born 9 March, 1963), a descendant of Queen Victoria, and younger brother of the Marquess of Milford Haven, entered into a same-sex marriage with his partner, James Coyle, thought to be the first such union for a descentant of the Queen Empress.
