Wilbur James Wentworth-Stanley (born 2022)

 Cressida Curzon Wentworth-Stanley (born 18 February, 1989, nee Bonas), wife of Harry David Wentworth-Stanley [born 1989], scion of that landed family, has given birth to her first child, a son, Wilbur James, 21 November, 2022. 

Harry is the second son of Nicholas Philip Wentworth-Stanley [born 1954] by his former wife the former Clare Husted Steel [now Marchioness of Milford Haven].

Cressida, descended from the Earls Howe, is the daughter of Mr Jeffrey Bonas, by his former wife the former Lady Mary-Gaye Georgiana Lorna Curzon [born 21 February, 1947], daughter of the 6th Earl Howe [1908-1984].

Mrs Wentworth-Stanley is a former girlfriend of HRH The Duke of Sussex, KCVO.

Dame Clare Lucy Marx, DBE, DL, FRCS 1954-2022

 Dame Clare Marx, DBE, DL, FRCS, who has died aged 68, was President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, 2014-2017, the first woman to hold that position.

She was born in 1954, the daughter of Francis Marx, and married in 1989, Andrew William Mildmay Fane, OBE (born 9 Aug, 1949), of Woodbridge, Suffolk, scion of the Earls of Westmorland, son of Maj Robert William Augustus Fane (1913-1989), and his wife the former Elinor Valerie Borthwick (1915-2008), scion of the Borthwick baronets.

She was appointed CBE in 2007, and advanced to DBE in 2018. She was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the county of Suffolk in 2008.

 Nancy Hoare (nee Bradish-Ellames) died 20 November, 2022, aged 98, was a scion of the Bradish-Ellames family, of Westhorpe and The Manor House, Little Marlow.

She was born in 1924 daughter of John Edward Mountague Bradish Ellames (1895-1984), and his first wife the former Helen Chambers Lehmann (1899-1985); and married 1951, Capt Edward Melville Brodie Hoare, DSC, RN (1918-2006), scion of that landed gentry family, of Gateley Hall, by whom she had two sons, Antony (born 1953) and Mark (born 1957), and a daughter, Caroline (born 1955).

Queen Camilla's 'Queen Companions' replace the Ladies-in-Waiting of old

 Buckingham Palace has announced Queen Camilla's 'Queen's Companions' - not the tradition Ladies or Women of the Bedchamber, or Ladies-in-Waiting.

They are:-

Sarah Rose Troughton (nee Colman, born 3 May, 1953), Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, a second cousin of the King, daughter of Sir Timothy Colman, KG (1929-2021), a Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, and his wife the former Lady Mary Cecilia Bowes Lyon (1932-2021), a Lady in Waiting to Princess Alexandra, scion of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne. Sarah married 1977, Peter John Charles Troughton (born 1948), son of Sir Charles Troughton, CBE (1916-91), and his wife the former Constance Mitford. The Troughtons have a son and two daughters.

The Marchioness of Lansdowne (nee Fiona Mary Merritt, born 1954), second wife of the 9th Marquess of Lansdowne (born 21 Feb, 1941), of Bowood, Wiltshire. The Marchioness is the current High Sheriff of Wiltshire and a Deputy Lieutenant of the county. The wife of Lord Lansdowne since 1987, she is an old friend of HM Queen Camilla.

Jane von Westenholz (born 15 May, 1953), daughter of Arthur Edmund Leveson (1908-81), and his wife the former Margaret Ruth Maude (died 2012). Her older sister Clare is wife of Jeremy Palmer-Tomkinson. Another sister, Anne (born 1946), is Countess De La Warr, wife of the 11th Earl. Jane married in 1979, as his second wife, Frederick Patrick Piers von Westenholz (born 1943), by whom she has a son and two daughters.

The Hon Lady Brooke (born 1 Feb, 1964), wife of baronet Sir Francis Brooke, 4th Baronet (born 15 Oct, 1963), and daughter of the late Baron Hussey of North Bradley (1923-2006), and his wife the Lady Susan Katharine Waldegrave, GCVO (born 1 May, 1939), for sixty years a Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth II. Lady Brooke is mother of a son, and two daughters.

Caroline Elizabeth "Carlyn" Chisholm, Baroness Chisholm of Owlpen (born 23 December 1951), a life peeress, and a Crossbencher in the Lords. She is the only daughter of the late John Wyndham, 6th Baron Leconfield (1920-73) and the former Pamela Wyndham-Quin (1925-2013), scion of the Earls of Dunraven & Mount Earl. The Hon. Carlyn Wyndham married in 1976, Colin Chisholm, son of Archibald Chisholm CBE. They have two sons and one daughter.

The Lady Sarah Mary Keswick (nee Ramsay) (born 18 Oct, 1945), daughter of the 16th Earl of Dalhousie, KT, GCVO (1914-99), Lord Chamberlain to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother 1965-92, and his wife the former Margaret Elizabeth Mary Stirling (1914-97); and married 23 Apr 1966, Sir John Chippendale Lindley Keswick (born 1940), by whom she has issue, three sons. Her sister, Elizabeth, Countess of Scarbrough (born 1941), widow of the 12th Earl, was a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother 1994-2002. Her brother, the 17th Earl of Dalhousie was appointed Lord Steward to the Household of Queen Elizabeth II in 2009.

Antonia Georgina Lara Colville (born 2022)

 Georgina Frances Colville [nee Shuker, born 1989], wife of Edward Timothy George Colville [born 30 December, 1988], scion of the Viscounts Colville of Culross, gave birth to a daughter, Antonia Georgina Lara, 15 November, 2022, a sister for Alexander Edward Herbert, who was born 22 February, 2021.

Georgina is a daughter of Martin R.F. Shuker, of Winkfield, Berkshire, and his wife the former Antonia Gray.

Edward is the son of James Richard Charles Colville [born 26 January, 1952], of Forthampton, Gloucestershire, and his wife the former Mary Virginia Louise Horn [born 6 Apr, 1957].

Edward Colville is a great-grandson of the 8th Earl of Jersey [1873-1923].

Isla Mary Elizabeth McCorquodale (born 2022)

Flora McCorquodale (nee Russell), wife of Malcolm George McCorquodale [born 1989], scion of that landed gentry family, gave birth to a daughter, Isla Mary Elizabeth, 12 October, 2022.

Flora is a daughter of Brigadier and Mrs Bruce Russell, of Stobo, Peebleshire. Flora's sister, Emily, announced her engagement in 2020, to Rory Lees-Millais (born 1990), scion of the baronets of that name.

Malcolm McCorquodale is a son of Hamish Norman McCorquodale [born 6 Feb, 1945], of Hethe, Oxfordshire, by his wife the former Mary Anne Cookson [born 1952], scion of the Cookson landed gentry family.

Malcolm McCorquodale descends from the Barons Luke on his paternal side, and via that family the Barons St John of Bletso. Prominent McCorquodale kin include Mary Pamela McCorquodale [born 31 May, 1932], wife of the 17th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne, a cousin of  the King, and Neil Edmund McCorquodale [born 1951], husband of Lady Sarah Spencer, sister of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Thomas Anthony Watson (born 8 January 1967) is a Labour party politician who served as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 2015 to 2019 and Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport from 2016 to 2019. A member of the Labour Party, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for West Bromwich East from 2001 to 2019.

The Baron Peach

 The life peerage recently conferred upon Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, GBE, KCB, DL, has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Peach, of Grantham in the County of Lincolnshire.

Stuart William Peach (born 22 February 1956) is a retired senior Royal Air Force officer. After training as a navigator, Peach commanded IX (Bomber) Squadron and then became Deputy Station Commander RAF Bruggen. He was deployed as NATO Air Commander (Forward) in Kosovo in 2000. He went on to be Chief of Defence Intelligence in 2006, Chief of Joint Operations in 2009 and the first Commander of Joint Forces Command in December 2011 before being appointed Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff in May 2013. Peach succeeded General Sir Nick Houghton as Chief of the Defence Staff on 14 July 2016. He succeeded General Petr Pavel as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 29 June 2018, serving as such until his retirement from NATO in June 2021.

Dame Frances Olivia Campbell-Preston, DCVO 1918-2022

Dame Frances Campbell-Preston, DCVO, who died 22 November, 2022, aged 104, was a long serving member of the Household of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. She was a Woman of the Bedchamber (that's a Lady in Waiting) to Her Majesty for 37 years, from her appointment to the Clarence House staff in 1965 until the Queen Mother's death in 2002.

She was appointed CVO in 1977, and advanced to DCVO in 1990.

She was born 2 September, 1918, as Frances Olivia Grenfell, scion of that landed gentry family, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Morton Grenfell, DSO (1873-1958), and his second wife the former Hilda Margaret Lyttelton (1886-1972), scion of the Barons Lyttelton. Her older half-brother, Reggie (1903-93), was married to Joyce Irene Phipps (1910-79), the comic actress Joyce Grenfell.

Frances Grenfell married 2 December, 1938, Lieutenant-Colonel George Patrick Campbell-Preston, MBE, DL (1911-60), late the Black Watch, scion of that Scottish landed gentry family, 2nd son of Colonel Robert William Pigott Clarke Campbell-Preston, 11th of Ardchattan (1865-1929), and his wife the former Mary Augusta Margaret Nicol Thorne (1884-1930).

Dame Frances leaves issue, two sons, Robert (born 1948), and Colin (born 1958), and two daughters, Mary Anne (born 1940), wife of Alastair Lorne Campbell of Airds, who died a few weeks ago, and Helen (born 1955).

Only a few weeks ago Dame Frances featured in an article in the Oldie magazine where she spoke of her time at Clarence House in the service of the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

Owain Anthony Mervyn Williams, DL, died 11 November, 2022, aged 67. He was a descendant of the Earls of Dundonald.

He was born 8 January, 1955, son of George Mervyn Williams, CBE, MC, TD (1918-2013), of Tretower House, Glamorgan, and his wife the former Grizel Margaretta Cochrane Stewart, DStJ (1914-2009); and married 1983, Bethan M. O'Donovan Watkins (born 1962), daughter of (Watcyn) Richard Watkins (1930-2018), and his wife the former Eileen O'Donovan, by whom he had issue, two sons, Harry and Archie, and three daughters, Elizabeth, Antonia and Arabella.

Mrs Cosmo Fry (c1962-2022)

 Lulu Fry (nee Anderson) died 17 November, 2022. She was 60.

Fashion editor Lulu was the third wife of Cosmo Joseph Fry (born 1957), son of Jeremy Fry (1924-2005), and his wife the former Camilla Grinling (born 1933). Jeremy and Camilla Fry were close friends of the late Princess Margaret and the 1st Earl of Snowdon, and Jeremy stood as godfather to the 2nd Earl. 

Lul Anderson married Cosmo Fry in 2012, as his third wife, after a lengthy relationship which had produced a son. 

Cosmo Fry had married firstly, 1982 (div 1986), Lady Cosima Maria-Gabriella Vane-Tempest-Stewart (born 25 Dec, 1961), officially daughter of the 9th Marquess of Londonderry (1937-2012), and Nicolette Elaine Katherine Harrison (d 1993), but in reality the daughter of Lady Londonderry and Robin Douglas-Home (1932-1968), scion of the Earls of Home. Fry had married 2ndly, in 1990 (div), Amanda Aspinall (1957-2019), daughter of John Victor Aspinall (1926-2000), and his wife the former Jane Gordon Hastings.

Lulu Fry, who died from cancer, leaves a son, Jude Joseph Fry (born 2001).

Kathryn Felice Lampard (born 20 April 1960) is an English former barrister. She undertook a number of senior non executive roles within the National Health Service, including chairing SouthEast Coast Strategic Health Authority. She is also a former Deputy Chairwoman of the Financial Ombudsman Service. In 2012 she was appointed by the Department of Health to oversee its investigation into the activities of the late broadcaster Sir Jimmy Savile at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary, Broadmoor Hospital, and elsewhere within the National Health Service after allegations of sexual abuse by Savile.

 The life peerage recently awarded to Sir Peter Hendy, CBE, has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Hendy of Richmond Hill, of Imber in the County of Wiltshire.

Peter Gerard Hendy (born 19 March 1953) is the current chairman of Network Rail and was formerly the Commissioner of Transport for London. 

He was appointed CBE in 2006, and following the successful operation of transport during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games he was knighted for services to transport and the community in the 2013 New Year Honours.

Stewart Jackson (born 31 January, 1965), is a Conservative politician and adviser. He served as a Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Peterborough from 2005 to 2017. After being ousted by Labour's Fiona Onasanya at the 2017 general election, he served as Chief of Staff, and Special Adviser to the Rt Hon David Davis, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, until July 2018 when Davis resigned his position.

 The life peerage recently conferred upon Mr Peter James Weir, has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Weir of Ballyholme, of Ballyholme in the County of Down.

Peter James Weir (born 21 November 1968) is a Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) politician who served as Minister for Education in the Northern Ireland Executive from 2016 to 2017 and from 2020 to 2021. Weir was the first non-Sinn Féin legislator (following Martin McGuinness, Caitríona Ruane, and John O'Dowd) to head the Department of Education since the department came into existence on 2 December 1999.He served as a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) from 1998 to 2022, originally being a member for North Down, which he represented from 1998 to 2017, before being elected as a member for Strangford in 2017. He lost his seat at the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election.

She was born in 1931, daughter of Geoffrey Broome Witts Woodroffe (1901-1982), and his wife the former Winifred Anne Wathen (1908-97), scion of that landed gentry family, of Bolwick Hall; and married 1960, Crewdson Howard Lloyd (1931-1999), scion of the Lloyds of Dolobran, son of Humphrey Howard Lloyd (1902-75), and his wife the former Rebecca Kenrick (1905-1976).

She leaves three sons, Stephen, Andrew and John.

The former Joanna Mary Turner, daughter of Eric Turner, of Horninghold, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, married 4 March, 1967, Henry Allesley Freer Ward Boughton-Leigh (1940-2012), of Rose Farm, Alderney, head of that gentry family of Brownsover Hall and Lord of The Manor of Newbold-on-Avon,  son of Allesley Henry Corbet Ward-Boughton-Leigh (1914-70), and his wife the former Norah Wyndham Freer, by whom she had issue, two sons, Edward (1968-70), and Charles (born 29 May, 1969).

She was widowed 26 Oct, 2012.

Rev Sir Charles John Wentworth Dilke, 6th Baronet 1937-2022

 Rev Sir Charles Dilke, 6th Baronet, died 14 November, 2022. He was 85.

Father Charles Dilke, a Roman Catholic priest for 56 years, was some time provost of the Brompton Oratory.

He was born 21 February, 1937, son of Sir John Fisher Wentworth Dilke, 5th Baronet (cr UK, 1862) (1906-98), and his wife the former Sheila Seeds (1912-2005), \daughter of diplomat Sir William Seeds, KCMG.

Charles Dilke was ordained a priest in 1966, and succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 28 June, 1998.

He is succeeded by his brother Dr Timothy Fisher Wentworth Dilke, who was born 1 Aug, 1938.

 Barbara, Baroness Poole, who died 10 November, 2022, was the third wife and widow of the 1st Baron Poole (1911-1993).

The former Barbara Anne Taylor, she was born in 1934, a daughter of Eric Albert Taylor (1907-1968), by his wife the former Dorothy Alice Woolner (1905-1979); she married 4 April, 1966, as his 3rd wife, Oliver Brian Sanderson Poole, 1st Baron Poole, CBE, TD, PC (born 11 August, 1911), son of Donald Louis Poole (1868-1921), and his wife the former Therese Lillian Frodsham (died 1969).

Her husband was Conservative MP for Oswestry, 1945-50, raised to the peerage as Baron Poole in 1958, served as joint chairman of the Conservative party in 1963. His second wife (1952-65), was Daphne Paarker Bowles (1917-95), aunt of Brig Andrew Parker Bowles (b 1939).

She was widowed 28 January, 1993.

The Hon Lady Butler served as High Sheriff of Warwickshire, 1997-98.

She was born 6 May, 1932, the former Felicity Sybil Molesworth-St Aubyn, scion of the baronets of that name, daughter of Guy Molesworth-St Aubyn (1904-1981), and his wife the former Catherine Hargreaves (1903-1979); and married 21 Oct, 1955, Adam Courtauld Butler (born 11 Oct, 1931), second son of Richard Austen (Rab) Butler, Baron Butler of Saffron Walden, KG, CH, PC, DL (1902-1982), and his first wife the former Sydney Elizabeth Courtauld (1902-54), scion of that landed family.

Sir Simon Towneley, KCVO, KCSG, JP 1921-2022

 Sir Simon Peter Edmund Cosmo William Towneley, KCVO, KCSG, JP, who died 11 November, 2022, aged 100, was an author who served as Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, 1976–1997. He was High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1971.

He was born 14 December, 1921, as Simon Peter Edmund Cosmo William Koch de Gooreynd, son of Colonel Alexander Louis Wynand Koch de Gooreynd (1899-1985), and his wife the former Priscilla Cecilia Maria Worsthorne Reyntiens (1899-1991), a granddaughter of the 7th Earl of Abingdon.

At a young age he assumed the surname of Worsthorne in lieu of his patronymic. A younger brother, Sir Peregrine Worsthorne (1923-1920), was the writer, journalist and sometime editor of the Sunday Telegraph.

During the Second World War, Worsthorne served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, receiving a commission as a second lieutenant in December 1942. In 1954 (under the name Simon Towneley Worsthorne) he published Venetian Opera in the 17th Century, a seminal study of the field, which played a significant role in the remarkable revival of the Venetian opera repertory in the latter 20th century.

On 18 January, 1955, he changed his surname again, and assumed the name of Towneley in lieu of Worsthorne. In the same year he married Mary Fitzherbert (1935-2001), scion of the Fitzherbert-Brockholes landed gentry family, daughter of Cuthbert Fitzherbert-Brockholes (1899-1975), and his wife the former Barbara Maria Manuela Scrope (1903-1975), scion of that ancient landed family, by whom he had issue, a son, Peregrine Henry (born 1962), and five daughters, Alice, Katharine, Victoria, Cosima and Frances.

He was appointed KCVO in the 1994 New Years Honours list.

Capt Alastair Lorne Campbell of Airds 1937-2022

 Capt Alastair Lorne Campbell of Airds, who died 10 November, 2022, aged 85, was a former Scottish officer of arms and author. 

He was appointed Unicorn Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary in 1987. In 2008 he was appointed Islay Herald Extraordinary. He was a member of the Highland Society of London, and he published a short history of the Society in 1978. He has also written several books on the history of Clan Campbell.

Alastair Lorne Campbell was born in London, 11 July, 1937, son of Brigadier Lorne Maclaine Campbell of Airds, VC, DSO (1902-1991), of Airds, Argyll, and his wife the former Amy Muriel Jordan Campbell (1905-50), scion of the Campbells of Auchendarroch.

He married 18 April, 1960, Mary Ann Campbell-Preston (born 1940), scion of that landed family, daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel George Patrick Campbell-Preston (1911-1960), and his wife the former Frances Olivia Grenfell, DCVO, scion of that landed family, who was Woman of the Bedchamber to HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother 1965-2002.

He leaves issue, three sons and a daughter.

 The Countess of Annandale and Hartfell, wife of the 11th Earl, died 4 November, 2022.

She was the former Susan Josephine Ross, daughter of Colonel Walter John Macdonald Ross, OBE, DL, JP, of Netherhall, Castle Douglas, Dumfriesshire; and married 23 August, 1969, the then Patrick Andrew Wentworth Hope Johnstone (born 19 April, 1941), son of Maj Percy Wentworth Hope Johnstone (1909-1983), and his wife the former Margaret Jane Hunter-Arundell (1910-1998).

Lady Annandale & Hartfell was a sister of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Malcolm Ross, GCVO, OBE, GCStJ, DL (1943 – 2019), courtier, who was a member of the Royal Household and from 2006 to 2008, Master of the Household to to then Prince of Wales. 

In 1995 he husband succeeded as 11th Earl of Annadale and Hartfell when his claim to the peerages, and that of the Lordship of Johnstone, was allowed by the House of Lords Committee of Privileges. Her husband has also been 26th Chief of the Clan Johnstone since 5 Apr, 1983.

The Countess, who lived near Lockerbie, in Dumfries, is survived by the Earl, and by a son, David, styled Lord Johnstone (born 13 Oct, 1971), and a daughter Lady Julia (who was born in 1974).

 The Baron Jones of Cheltenham, who died 7 November, 2022, aged, 74, was a Liberal Democrat life peer and former MP for Cheltenham.

Nigel David Jones was born 30 March, 1948. He served as Lib Dem MP for Cheltenham 1992-2005, after which he was raised to the peerage as Baron Jones of Cheltenham, of Cheltenham in the County of Gloucestershire.

Jones was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cheltenham at the 1992 general election, winning the seat from the Conservative Party. Jones was a member of the public accounts committee from 2002-05. Sally Raffles (nee Sieff) (died 2022)

 Sally Raffles (nee Sieff), who died 3 November, 2022, aged 89, was a niece of Israel Moses Sieff, Baron Sieff. She was a daughter of Joseph Edward Sieff (1905 – 1982), who was chairman of retailer Marks & Spencer and honorary vice-president of the British Zionist Federation. She married Ralph Raffles, son of Emanuel Raffles and Bertha Freedman, by whom she had four children.

She was born 16 December, 1928, daughter of the Hon Francis Alexander Innys Eveleigh de Moleyns (1901-64), and his 1st wife the former Norah Caroline Hudson (who died 26 Aug, 1937), and was a granddaughter paternally of the 6th Baron Ventry (Peerage of Ireland, cr 1800) (1864-1936).

Sir Evelyn Robert de Rothschild 1931-2022

 Sir Evelyn Robert Adrian de Rothschild, who has died aged 91, was a financier and a member of the Rothschild family, and a cousin of the the 4th Baron (Peerage of the UK, cr 1885).

Evelyn de Rothschild was born on 29 August 1931. The son of Anthony Gustav de Rothschild (1887–1961) and Yvonne Lydia Louise Cahen d'Anvers (1899–1977), he was named after his uncle Evelyn Achille de Rothschild who was killed in action in World War I. Evelyn de Rothschild spent several of his boyhood years in the United States during World War II. He was a pupil at Harrow School and then studied history at Trinity College, Cambridge, but dropped out before gaining a degree.

Evelyn de Rothschild was appointed a director of Paris-based de Rothschild Frères in 1968 while Guy de Rothschild from the French branch of the family became a partner at N M Rothschild & Sons. In 1976, he took over as bank chairman from Victor Rothschild and in 1982 became chairman of Rothschilds Continuation Holdings AG, the co-ordinating company for the merchant banking group. He became co-chairman of Rothschild Bank A.G., Zurich in 1994, serving until 2003 when he oversaw the merger of the family's French and UK houses. David René de Rothschild of the French branch took over as executive chairman of Rothschild International after the different branches had been merged and Sir Evelyn continued as non-executive chairman of N M Rothschild & Sons. In 2003, he founded with his wife, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a holding company, E.L. Rothschild, to manage their investments in The Economist and various enterprises in India.

His company directorships include: Deputy Chairman - Milton Keynes Development Corporation (1971–1984); Chairman - The Economist (1972–1989); Director - IBM United Kingdom Holdings Limited (1972–1995); Chairman - United Racecourses (1977–1994); Director - De Beers Consolidated Mines (1977–1994); Chairman - British Merchant Banking & Securities House Association (1985–1989). He also served as a Director of the newspaper group owned by Lord Beaverbrook. Years later, he served for a time as a Director of Lord Black's Daily Telegraph newspaper. An owner of thoroughbred racehorses, he was a past chairman of United Racecourses.

Rothschild served as Queen Elizabeth II's financial adviser. He was a Governor of the London School of Economics and Political Science as well as an active patron of the arts and supporter of a number of charities. He served as Chairman of the Delegacy of St Mary's Hospital Medical School from 1977 to 1988. He was a Member of the Council of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, a trustee of the Shakespeare Globe Trust, and in 1998 was appointed Chairman of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. Sir Evelyn was the founding chairman in 1990 of The European Association for Banking and Financial History in Frankfurt, Germany, a position he held until retiring in 2004. He was a board member of the Snowdon Trust, founded by the Earl of Snowdon, which provides grants and scholarships for students with disabilities.

Evelyn de Rothschild married firstly, 30 September, 1966 (div 1971), Jeannette Ellen Dorothy Bishop (who died 1981), daughter of Ernest Bishop, and a niece of Sir Stanley Hooker, the jet-engine engineer. Rothschild married secondly, 1 July, 1973 (div 2000), Victoria Lou Schott (1949 -2021), the daughter of Florida property developer Lewis Schott, and his wife Marcia W. Schott (née Whitney), by whom he had issue, three children. He married 3rdly, 30 November 2000, as her second husband, the American lawyer and entrepreneur Lynn Forester, who survives him.

Rothschild had homes in London, New York City, Martha's Vineyard, and Ascott House, a country estate owned by the National Trust in Buckinghamshire about 46 miles north of London. 

Rothschild was appointed a Knight Bachelor in the 1989 New Year Honours.

From his second marriage he leaves issue, two sons, Anthony and David, and a daughter, Jessica.

Admiral of the Fleet The Baron Boyce, KG, GCB, OBE, KStJ, DL 1943-2022

 Admiral of the Fleet The Baron Boyce, KG, GCB, OBE, KStJ, DL, died 6 November, 2022. He was 79. 

Lord Boyce was a South African-born British Royal Navy officer who also sat as a crossbench member of the House of Lords until his death. He was appointed Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports on 10 December 2004, succeeding the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in that role, and later awarded England's highest order of chivalry, the Garter.

The death of Lord Boyce now leaves six vacancies in the membership of the Order of the Garter, who when at full capacity number 24.

Michael Cecil Boyce was born 2 April, 1943, son of Commander Hugh Boyce DSC and Madeline (née Manley), and was educated at Hurstpierpoint College and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. He joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1961. Michael Boyce commanded three submarines and then a frigate before achieving higher command in the Navy and serving as First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff from 1998 to 2001 and then as Chief of the Defence Staff from 2001 to 2003. As Chief of Defence Staff he is believed to have had concerns about US plans for a national missile defence system. In early 2003 he advised the British Government on the deployment of troops for the invasion of Iraq, seeking assurances as to the legitimacy of the deployment before it was allowed to proceed.

He was appointed OBE in 1982, KCB in 1995, and advanced to GCB in 1999. He was raised to the peerage for life as Baron Boyce, of Pimlico in the City of Westminster, on 16 June 2003.  He was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London on 19 December 2003. He was appointed a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter in 2011. On 6 December 2021, Boyce was appointed Vice-Admiral of the United Kingdom.

Lord Boyce married 1stly, in 1971, Harriette Gail Fletcher, by whom he had one son and one daughter. Following the dissolution of his first marriage, he married Fleur Margaret Anne Rutherford (née Smith). Lady Boyce died in 2016 at the age of 67.

 The life peerage recently conferred upon Sir Hugo Swire, KCMG, PC, has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Swire, of Down Saint Mary, in the County of Devon.

Swire (born 30 Nov, 1959), is a politician. He served as the Conservative MP for East Devon from 2001 until 2019. He has had several ministerial roles, most recently as Minister of State for Europe and the Americas, a role he held until July 2016. Swire is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council. He retired from the House of Commons at the 2019 general election. Since 2022 he has been a member of the House of Lords.

He is a son of Humphrey Roger Swire (1934-2004), and his 1st wife the former Philippa Sophia Montgomerie of Southannan (born 1935) (she married 2ndly in 2004, as his 3rd wife, the 7th Marquess Townshend (1916-2010).

Hugh is a son of Raymond Samuel Sancroft-Baker [born 1950], of Swalcliffe Lea, co Oxon, by his wife the former [Daphne] Caroline Adams.  Hugh's paternal grandmother was a Heron-Maxwell, of the baronets of that name.

The Baron Leong

 The life peerage recently conferred upon Mr Sonny Leong, CBE, has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron Leong, of Chilton in the County of Oxxfordshire and of Camden Town in the London Borough of Camden.

Sonny Leong (born September 1953) is a British Labour Party politician, and the co-founder and co-chair of SME4Labour. A former barrister, Leong founded Cavendish Publishing in 1990. The company made £250,000 in its first year. In 2001, he was appointed managing director of Cavendish Publishing, with a 30-percent stake in the company. By 2003, it was the largest independent law publisher in the United Kingdom. In 2006, Leong sold Cavendish Publishing to Taylor & Francis. He left Taylor & Francis in 2007 to join One Charter, a private jet business, as a non-executive director. He was formerly the Chair of Chinese for Labour.

Air Vice Marshal John Maurice Maynard Ponsonby, OBE 1955-2022

 Air Vice Marshal John Ponsonby, OBE, who has died aged 67, was a scion of the Barons De Mauley.

John Maurice Maynard Ponsonby was born 8 August, 1955, son of Myles Walter Ponsonby (1924-1999), and his wife the former Ann Veronica Theresa Maynard; and married 1980, Marie Jose Antoinette Van Huizen-Husselson, by whom he had issue, a son, Luke (born 1986), and two daughters, Charlotte (born 1982), and Francesca (born 1986).

Ponsonby was commissioned into the Royal Air Force in April 1983 as a pilot, after nine years service as an infantry in the British Army. On 10 April 1983, he was appointed to a permanent commission and promoted to flight lieutenant with seniority from 10 March 1980.On 1 July 1988, he was promoted to squadron leader, and then to wing commander on 1 January 1994. As a group captain, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 1999 New Year Honours, and was made an aide-de-camp to Queen Elizabeth II on 1 August 2001. He relinquished this appointment on 3 May 2002,being promoted to air commodore on 1 July that year. Ponsonby was also awarded the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in the 2002 Operational Honours List "in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Northern Ireland during the period 1 October 2001 to 31 March 2002". He was promoted to his final rank of air vice marshal on 4 January 2005.

He has served as a support helicopter pilot throughout his career, and as a helicopter and tactics instructor. He commanded No. 78 Squadron in the Falkland Islands, No. 27 Squadron in the UK, the Support Helicopter Force in Bosnia and RAF Aldergrove/Joint Helicopter Force in Northern Ireland.

He has held staff appointments at group, command and ministry level, including as deputy principal staff officer to the Chief of the Defence Staff (General Sir Charles Guthrie), and most recently as air officer plans at Headquarters Strike Command. He was a graduate of the RAF Staff College and the Joint Service Command and Staff College. He was appointed air officer commanding Training Group on 4 January 2005 and became air officer commanding No. 22 (Training) Group on 30 October 2006.

She was born 22 May, 1940, as Margaret Ann Honoria (Merry) Macnab, scion of that landed gentry family, daughter of Brigadier John Francis Macnab of Barravorich, CBE, DSO (1906-1980), and his wife the former (Dorothy) Margaret Treadwell (1903-1988); and married 27 September, 1961, Major the Hon Edward Renfric Arundell (born 2 November, 1933), who, in 1991, was raised to the rank of a Baron's son, scion of the Barons Talbot of Malahide, son of Reginald John Arthur Arundell (1903-1953), and his wife the former Winifred Nellie Castle (1895-1954), by whom she had three daughters, Lucinda (b 17 Oct, 1962), Camilla (born 2 March, 1965), and Nicola (born 30 Sept, 1967).
