John Robert Polk 1942-2020

_. John Robert Polk, who died 8 June, 2020, was a grandson of the 1st [and last] Baron Brand, CMG [1878-1963], and a stepson of courtier Sir Edward Ford, GCVO, KCB [1910-2006].

He was born in 1942, son of John Metcalfe Polk [died 1948], by his wife the former Hon Virginia Brand [1918-95]. His grandmother, Phyllis Langhorne [died 1937], was a sister of Nancy, Viscountess Astor [1879-1964].

John Polk's mother married, 1 Dec, 1949, as her second husband, Lieutenant-Col Sir Edward William Spencer Ford, GCVO, KCB, descended from the Earls of Shrewsbury and the Lyttelton family, who served King George VI as assistant private secretary, 1946-52 and Queen Elizabeth II in the same capacity 1952-67.

John Polk married 1969, Benedetta Maryons, daughter of David Grose, of Elystan St, SW3, by whom he had issue, James Metcalfe Polk [b 1973], Laura Elizabeth [b 1971], and Alice Victoria [b 1981].
